Hitachi 55" 4K, UHD, HDR with Roku TV

I bought this last month not having a smart tv, but using Google Chromecast on our TVs. This TV has a beautiful picture, a small, easy to use remote control, and allows us to stream shows rather than paying expensive cable packages. We love it!

Not so great. You pay for what you get.

Not really 4K, even with an internet speed of 25Mbps . It constantly freezes when streaming in an app. And picture quality is 1080p 30fps at most but not 4K.

Died after 2 years

First review I have ever written. Purchased this TV 2 years ago and last week it died. I am able to turn it on but there is no picture and no sound. I contacted Hitachi through their website and explained my situation which included when we purchased this item. Hitachi sent an email the next day asking me to fill out a questionnaire, which I did. The response I got: "....outside the coverage of HitachiÂ’s 12 month limited manufacturer warranty. If you would like to appeal this decision, you may do so in writing by sending a letter to our Customer Service Appeals Committee." Why was I asked to fill out the questionnaire when the date of purchae was in my original email. I have a Vizo in my basement that we've had for 6 years now. My mistake to try another company. Product did not last long at all and the company was of no help with any options to fix my TV. I would have even been happy with some kind of troubleshooting from them but I got nothing. Will not purchase Hitachi again.

Bad TV

We are extremely unhappy with it and returning it today. Unless you are sitting right in front of it the picture is very hazy, during dark scenes you might as well forget it, it is unwatchable. This problem occurred during streaming as well as through our very expensive HDMI cables. We tried everything to clear it up, its just a bad product. We put our old Sharp 50" back to use. We were shocked that they would sell something this bad. Stay away from this one.

A beautiful picture

I bought this Hitachi this summer when on sale for about $412. We haven't used it but 3-4 times, but the picture is beautiful, and so far we haven't needed to add a sound bar (which is an improvement over the 42" Hitachi I bought five years ago). I am hoping the pixels don't burn out on the 55" like they have on the 42".

Terrible

We purchased this TV almost two weeks to the day later it just quit. So we replaced with same item. Got the run around just to return. Then another 14 days later it again quit. DO NOT BUY THIS> JUNK> Good price yes but you get what you pay for.

Terrible Image Quality

This tv has very big issues with bloom with night objects relative to a dark scene. The biggest negative against the set was an almost murky image in dim or dark scenes, best way to describe is looking at something with a thin film of soda or an oily substance over glass. Bright scenes were ok quality wise. Still love the Roku TV software, but had to return due to the image quality. Customer Service said something most be wrong with them, 3 come back just that day.

Total disappointment

I bought this TV at Sams Club late 2017 and it’s been a total disappointment, it kicks me out while watching shows especially Netflix/Amazon prime/Hulu etc and have to continually reset the TV. Sometimes it does it on just regular TV and kicks you back to the Roku main screen. It can drive you insane. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TV.

Santa’s elves have a quality control issue.

Kids were excited to plug in the TV and play some of their new games since it was a little cold for outside toys. TV lasted about 5 minutes - it did not even make it through the initial setup before the screen faded to black and quit. We spent a good chunk of time Christmas morning attempting to troubleshoot before giving up. Multiple reviews from other folks describe a similar issue. Disappointing to say the least. Now we’ve got to figure out how to return this dud to the North Pole without the kids suspecting anything.
