I had a smoke/carbon monoxide (CO) combo detector like this in my new house. Within 1 year the CO alarm went off, and I had to call 911. The firemen told me that it had malfunctioned. In fact, if it really was a CO issue and enough CO had built up to reach the ceiling to set off the alarm, I would be dead! A CO detector should be plugged into an outlet down near the floor. Why are they still approved to make this kind of fake dual detector? If you don't believe the firemen or me, check it out online for yourself. Be safe!

Had a false alarm at 530 am during a storm the cut out the power at the same time…this model is faulty and they have to know this….i’ve never had a random false fire alarm like how this went off. Now it’s chirping every 30 seconds even after cleaning it There’s no easy way to find how to stop the chirping. Horrible product that they need to recall. My alsrms are only 2 yrs old

I bought 2 of these for my home in August 2024. They worked fine for about 60 days then they both began to go off unexpectedly. At first I was concerned that a fire or CO2 event was occurring but after about a week of false alarms I uninstalled both. The alarms would go off for about 10 seconds then would go quite. My other alarms, not by Kidde, did not detect any issues. I consider this a waste of resources and will not but a product from this company again!

Purchased in either October or November and finally got it mounted about two weeks ago - read instructions carefully & the alarm beeped when attaching it to the base, I even did the monthly test prior to mounting in main room with gas fireplace. Two days ago someone put two or three very large pine cones in the unvented (damper closed) gas fireplace. The room was FULL to choking point with billowing smoke. black clouds of smoke obscured the smoke alarm completely, yet it never made even a chirp. Kidde has always had an excellent reputation in alarms & extinguishers, yet in this instance (at least on this particular alarm) it failed completely. I have a lot of Kidde extinguishers, and they consistently rate high. I was very surprised, and double checked - no where in the instructions does it say anything other than "smoke" alarm. I know some alarms work on heat, the alarm was not in an area of heat, but if it is supposed to recognize smoke, this particular alarm did not.

Moderately reduced unwanted alarms in kitchen but failed after 3 years with unstoppable alarm, requiring destruction of the unit. Vacuuming failed. Also, pause and test on the same button was a horrible idea! Pausing frequently turned into testing!

Completely new units installed in a clean house only 2 months ago, no painting or dust issues. Installed following recommendations on location. Started going off at 12:30am with no obvious cause. There is no dust in the air (two air filters in the room) and no insects. If it goes off again will have to replace all units as I can't trust them.

I bought one which lasted a bit under a year. Kidde sent me a free replacement at the start of January 2024. Now, 3 months later, that alarm is signaling that's it malfunctioning. This product should not be on the shelves out there. "Worry-free" is laughable. Now I won't even bother to ask for a 3rd. What waste of my money.

We originally had these installed in 2019 throughout the house. Not even a year later, the alarms started randomly going off, and the company who installed them removed all of them and placed brand new ones again. Now 2 years later, the alarms are randomly going off without any trigger. I can see that we are not the only ones who have experienced this issue. I would like some assistance with these faulty alarms.

I installed two of these in 2019, one in the kitchen and one in the living room. We had a major issue with the toaster tonight which resulted in the kitchen filling with DENSE smoke, overflowing into the living room, and there wasn't a peep out of either smoke detector!!! They are totally dead; I tried hitting the test button after triaging the emergency situation first, and they didn't respond to that either. Who knows when they actually died (terrifying to think we've been so vulnerable for so long)... but they should have had 6 years left in them! The false sense of security these provide is nightmarish! I will stick to the replaceable-battery kind in the future. Would rather have them chirp in the middle of the night due to a low battery, then have my whole house burn down because these nonsense detectors don't live up to their promise!!

Took a little longer to get the products delivered than we thought, but once they arrived, they fit perfectly in the space where the old detectors were. So far so good. We like the idea that we won’t have to change the batteries twice a year like we had been.
