Here are a few steps that should help:<br />Hold the red handle in your right hand and the gray handle in your left.<br />Extend the handle halfway (not all the way), then turn the red handle away from you to lock it.<br />Next, extend the bottom gray section (closest to the base with the tread) halfway, then turn it toward you to lock it.<br />After that, you should be able to fully extend both sections into the locked position.
