I've been buying these plate for years 2 packs a month. But for some reason the last 4 purchases the plate have a terrible rotting crawdad smell to them. I keep them in the cabinet and as soon as you open the cabinet this stench just falls out of the cabinet and stinks up the whole kitchen. I don't know if they are using a different chemical at the paper mill or what. But its terrible and disgusting. I was hoping it was a problem with one batch, but it's been the same smell for 2 months. Not very pleasant especially if having company over for the holidays. I suggest opening the bag at the store and smelling them before taking them home. Unfortunately not able to do that as I purchase these from the site.
