No Packaging!

Shipped with other items. No packaging. Severely dented cans. Called the corporate number. Talked to 5 different people. Call time 57 minutes. No resolution. Called local store. Finally spoke with manager. No resolution. Call time 32 minutes. My solution: order one item, wait until it ships, order next item, wait until it ships... Make sure each item is shipped in its own box. My order was shipped from two different locations. So, the problem with shipments with no packaging is not with one distribution center.

Classic chili in a can

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The classic canned chili, Hormel is my favorite brand of canned chili . Good flavor, packed full with beans and some meat. I like that it is not a watery tomato base. perfect for a quick bowl or great in recipes.

Why did you ruin the taste of your chili?

I have loved your chili ever since I was a little boy, and now it tastes like cardboard! My wife liked Spam and you changed it and now she will not buy it again. I loved your chili and now I won't buy it again. I rated it one star because there was there was no "no star" box to check. I am really disappointed and sad that it has changed.

A Great Product has Changed

First, I truly respect Hormel for allowing people to post their reviews even when they are not so positive. Like other reviewers, I've enjoyed Hormel Chili for two decades, especially the Chunky with Beans, Hot with Beans and the Tabasco product which I haven't seen in awhile. For the past month I've been trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Did I get a bad batch of Hot with Beans? I prayed it wasn't a new recipe. Last night I pulled out a can of Chunky that was probably purchased six months ago and it suffered from the exact same issue, so I strongly suspect a permanent change. It's not subtle, either. With the old recipe there would be natural separation of ingredients: maybe three quarters of an inch of briny water on the top with the beans and meat packed into the rest of the can. It was a fine product and never varied in quality. Now it is like the product is suspended uniformly in a sauce that is more like oily ketchup. Another reviewer, I think, described it better when he/she said it's like Marinara sauce or some kind of sweet marinade. All I could think of to describe it is that it's like dipping your spoon into a can of ketchup with beans suspended throughout the sauce, but I never got to the bottom because all three times now I had to throw it straight away after that first spoonful or two of sauce. Just writing these words makes my stomach muscles spasm. Who knows why these changes were made? Maybe there's some cost savings, or some change in the supply chain? I see that Hormel is denying there's been any recipe change, but if there's one group of people whose taste buds are attuned to differences, it's chili aficionados--and I am NOT a chili aficionado. Fortunately, in my garage there are about three cases of the old stuff. But once those cans are gone, that's going to be it for me.

I would and have purchased this again!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] All the Hormel Chili I tried tasted the same (with the exception of the hot). Very good, great on top of taco salad, in quesadillas, with queso as a dip... great taste, very filling! And didn't taste artificial or greasy.

Horrible

I recently bought a can of chili as I always try to keep a can or two on hand for weekend nights when I don't feel like cooking. It took me a little while to buy the product because the labels were not the original Hormel label that I had been used to for years. You see I am 41 years old and have always been a picky eater. My tastebuds haven't changed in my older years. Hormel chili has always been the only canned chili I will eat. There are no surprises, no onions, no peppers just good ole plain chili until now. I finally bought the can that said no beans like I always get i thought well maybe the label just changed. I know after years of the same packaging sometimes changes are made. But when I opened the can last night I began to realize not only did the label change but also the product. There where small green peppers of some sort. Which have never been there before. I don't eat any kind of peppers in my food and I have been eating this same chili since I was a little girl. So I decided maybe I'll just try it ...well it was horrible not the same Hormel chili that I have grown to love since I was little. So I threw the can away in disbelief that a product could just totally change the recipe. So to makers of Hormel you have ruined a perfectly good product! Hopefully your sales will decline and you will be forced to change the recipe back to its original form.

There is false advertising in the marketing of this product.

The advertising or description on store websites indicate that this product has beef as the meat. When viewing the ingredients on the can itself beef and pork are shown as the meat. This is very misleading, inaccurate and disturbing to your valued customers whose food laws do not allow the consumption of pork or pork products. Immediate action must be taken to correct this gross negligence on the part of the marketing management staff of Hormel. A review of all website descriptions on retail stores for this product should take place immediately and corrected as soon as possible.

I would buy this product for many recipes.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my free sample of Hormel Chili with beans and was excited to give it a try. I really liked the taste and consistency of the chili. I used this variety of chili to make chili dogs. It paired very well with the hot dogs I used and was just right; not too thick and not too runny. The beans were cooked perfectly and weren't too hard or too mushy. This chili is superior to other chili varieties I have tried in the past. I have used this chili many times in the past and really enjoy it. I will definitely be purchasing this chili again in the future for all sorts of recipes or to eat just as is. I would absolutely recommend this Hormel Chili with Beans to others looking for a great chili product.
