If you don't have the time to make mashed from scratch, these are the next best thing! I do reverse the amounts of water & milk listed in the directions (more milk, less water), but other than that I follow the "recipe" on the box. I've always done that with other brands of instant mash too, and these are the best brand I've ever used. I always keep some on hand.

I WAS ALWAYS SKEPTICAL ABOUT BUYING INSTANT MASHED POTATOES, BUT I SAW THESE IN SAMS AND THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE THEM A TRY. MY FAMILY CAN NOT TELL THE DIFFERENC. I ADD GARLIC, SOURCREAM FOR GARLIC MASH, AND CHEDDAR CHEESE WHEN DOING A CHEESE MASH. I ALSO USE TO THICKEN SOUPS AND GRAVEYS AND ON TOP OF MY COTTAGE AND SHEPHERDS PIES.

These are so close to the potatoes we make for special occasions, that most people can't tell the difference. If you don't have time to peel, boil and mash, these potatoes are the next best thing. These are convenient and delicious, and no one complains when I make them. Great product at a great price. This is one item we can't do without. We always have a box in our cupboard.

We know NOTHING beats real mashed potatoes, but these are the best instant potatoes on the market. Add milk, butter, and seasoning and they are great! I also add the brown gravy mix that I get in the spice isle at Sam's! Great additions...tastes just like KFC, when you do this!

Listing shows "water only" but the real "home" recipe calls for milk and butter. There is a "food service" option for large batches of flavorless soft starch if you want 26 servings, but that is NOT how the item is marketed here. It's not like the individual packets that use the same recipe descriptions here. This one is very misleading!

I have never bought this brand before, but I was so very surprised at the quality of these instant potatoes, My youngest loves mashed potatoes, I make them all the time, but there are times you run out, and need a back up. These were great, nothing like the product I usually buy. These do not take as much to make a bowl of mashed potatoes, first time using this, I made them way too thick, so I had to thin them out, but let me tell you, I will be buying these from now on. They do make great and tasty tater cakes, the next day. Price for the quality, it is a win in my book.

I had been making the store bought flake potatoes to make for my son because he enjoyed them. After I joined Samsclub, I found these and based on the claims on the box, decided to try them. We were amazed how great these Idahoan potatoes tasted! I always microwave them and it turns out perfectly. I highly recommend them and will never go back to the flakes. Samsclub MUST keep these in stock! Although the directions call for a higher percentage of water than milk, I like to use at least fifty percent milk.

Follow your instincts. Use milk instead of water. Add garlic or more margarine for your family's preference. We add fresh garlic sometimes or cheese to give these a kick. They are a basic mashed potato and if you follow the basic directions, thats what you'll get: a basic mashed potato meant for large foodservice situations. But if you get creative these can be very flavorful and fast at the same time. Don't be afraid to experiment with these spuds.

Oh my God! It took me a month to finally try to make these and what a shock! In the microwave for 2 minutes, then sired in the potatoes and they are the best mashed potatoes ever! Better than homemade, but probably because of the butter added. No salt needed. They are perfectly seasoned straight from the box. Easiest side dish ever!

These instant potatoes have a real potato taste. I was surprised at how good they taste for instant potatoes. No over processed or chemical after taste. They didn't make me swell either which is a good thing because I'm very sensitive to a lot of preservatives and additives.
