This set initially reminded me of the Mercedes dual set (with the Defender being comparable to the Mercedes SUV) and the Project 7 reminding me a lot of the McLaren Elva. Those sets weren't terrible, but it just seemed a bit plain for the Speed Champions sets. When I saw the preview pics of this set, I was a bit underwhelmed. But, of course, I have all of the other retail SC sets, so I was going to get it and build it regardless.
My initial thoughts were unfounded, to say the least. Where the Mercedes kit was lacking in terms of interesting build details and the built models looking rather boring in comparison to the other SC sets, this one stands out a bit. First, there are some newer techniques for the build, especially the Land Rover, which doesn't use the 8 stud body frame that most of the sets use now. Also, I noticed that while most recent builds have been symmetrical (with the exception of the cabins), both of these cars have a number of tweaks in the design that make one side just a smidge different than the other, which added some additional interesting build moments. The Elva ended up looking really plain, likely due to the details in the blue bricks sort of blending together. The Project 7 avoids this by having details such as the 7 decals and black details breaking up the blueness.
So, while not my favorite of the dual sets, it's far better than I had anticipated, which is a win in my estimation.
