Bought this product instead of a blue ray player solely because I could connect to my stereo system. I use it more for playing CDs than I do for watching DVDs. On the plus side it plays both DVDs and CDs well. On the negative side you must press the open/close button twice (unless using remote) to load the CD. It takes a while to load and then requires you to hit the play button once loaded. The DVDs will auto play - just load DVD and close door and it begins playing. The description of the product says it will produce sound when fast forwarding or fast rewinding. I find this true only with the CDs and not with the DVDs. The remote can only be programmed for a TV. I was hoping to control my amplifier's volume as I did with my last Sony 5-disk player. The old remote seems to be working this player just fine so I don't use the supplied remote. Overall I say this product is worth it's cost and would recommend as long as you don't need all the bells and whistles.

I purchased this unit as an upgrade for an older player and so far, it has performed magnificently. There were a few features on this machine that I was not aware of until I brought it home and began using it. For the price, I would highly recommend it.

I verified this ability by playing Walker Texas Ranger season 1 on my new Sony DVD. They seemed washed out and fuzzy on my other DVD player but with this Sony DVD, the video is clear, colorful, easy to read credits as they are shone. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Price was less than expected for an outstanding player as this one and quality is excellent. Remote works close or far, from high up to low down, side to side.

The tiny green dot is the only display on the DVD player, which I found odd... However, for the price I paid $15 more than the cheapest DVD player so I could have the HDMI output option, which is very necessary for the future of owning electronics. This model also plays DVD+/-RW's and has Dolby Digital output, options other cheaper models didn't have.... The only reason to upgrade from this DVD player is if you want: 1) a DVD/VCR combo, 2) a portable DVD player, or, 3) a blue-ray player.

Had a difficult time finding this feature on ANY DVD player that was for sale out there. I watch a lot of classic NFL and MLB DVD's and like to use the frame forward / frame backward feature to see every play by play picture without missing a beat. This was the only reason why I bought this player...just to get this feature. Other than that, it works fine on movie DVD's and the HDMI is great! But I focus more on using this for my sports DVD's. Glad Sony has this feature when all the other brands seem to not have this feature for some odd reason. Either I'm getting too old or no one really uses this feature anymore! I remember when this feature was EVERYWHERE on all DVD players, not anymore!

I've have a lot of Sony products in the past, but this one gets me. I bought brand new dvds and was so excited to watch them finally. Well, they skipped, froze and would not play.So I tried cleaning a new machine, still didn't solve the issue. So I will try a cleaning kit, see if that fixes it. If not, it'll be in the garbage.

After purchasing my new DVD player, we watched our first movie. My family and I noticed right away that the picture and sound quality improved our viewing pleasure. Very happy with this purchase. Highly recommend this product for anyone who is looking for a newer DVD player.

I was impressed by the video quality of this DVD player. But I was seriously unimpressed by the remote control. Instead of including buttons for such features as repeat and zoom, you have to navigate through a frustrating menu system to access those features. It's as if one group of people designed the player itself (which works well) and another group of people purposely decided to make the player as inconvenient as possible to use (by designing a terrible remote control and menu system). Other frustrating features of this DVD player include fast motion, slow motion and advance buttons that work in unintuitive ways and a counter that appears so momentarily that it's nearly impossible to read (There's another counter that will remain on indefinitely, but it is part of the menu system, and the menu blocks the video in the background). This unit also has a tiny power-on LED that is nearly invisible from across a large room. On the positive side, the remote control allows you to see screen shots of multiple titles and chapters simultaneously and it has extremely smooth and sharp slow motion (but it doesn't have frame by frame slow motion). If I had it to do over again, I probably would have spent more time researching the features and remote controls of other models, and probably would have bought one of those other models instead of this one.

This is a compact unit which is nice but best of all it is a great player! I have always loved Sony products and had good luck with them. The picture is clear and everything came in the box so hooking right up and using it immediately was no problem. GREAT deal and I couldn't believe the price! What a gem! I only have one problem. I already own an older (VERY old) Sony theatre system. The 5 disc changer went out a few years ago so I simply plugged another DVD player into it and continue to use it for my surround sound and radio when in the mood. The problem is, when I use the controller for the new DVD player, it also works on the old surround! ROFL Maybe changing codes in newer models would be a good idea. :) I consider this a VERY minor problem however and can't say enough about Sony products!

I purchased this in September of 2022 as I was going to start watching more DVD's, as of recently however I've had several DVD's that freeze up in the middle of the episodes, I noticed it on some when I first purchased it, but now its doing it all the time, hopefully with the protection I bought when I bought this, they can replace mine quickly
