I purchased a DVD player as a gift for Christmas for my mom using the online ordering process with in store pickup. I was disappointed to find that the box containing the DVD had clearly been opened and very poorly re-sealed. I opened the box there with the representative and found the items to be in the box however they were essentially just stuffed into the box by whom ever returned it. I was left wondering why Walmart would let such a poorly packaged product un-inspected and not disclosed to the the purchaser be made available with no disclosure as an open box. I paid full price and so far the unit is working. I thought it particularly interesting that I was offered an extend warranty for a few extra dollars.

We just want a simple, easy to use and cheap DVD player. I did some research and found this. After a day using it, I misplaced the disk and it stucked inside it! Then, I just used a screwdriver to open the top shelf and got the disk out. Very simple! Everything works fine so far!

My reasons for buying this unit were its up-scaling feature, multi-disc resume (indispensable for me!) and great slow/fast play features. It did not disappoint. My only complaint is my Visio and Insignia TVs are not in the list of TVs that the remote can control. Sony needs to update their remotes.

I am not a fan of paying high prices for electronic accessories, because at some point or another, they will fail due to what I call "planned obsolescence". This is a great product for the money. Works well, very simple to program. Can't go wrong with it!

This Player is nothing fancy. It isn't a Bluray (not at the price I paid). It comes with a remote. It does play well for a refurbished model. I don't burn DVDs anymore, nor am I likely to get burned ones anymore. There's not much good on TV for older people anyway, so this is the kind I chose. If things change, perhaps I'll upgrade.

Awesome DVD player. We got this as a gift and it is easy to use. My only negative was being a HDMI hook up I thought it would have came with cables. It did come with the colored cables but we asked for this b/c of the HDMI hook up. $10 easy fix so not complaining. Still love it and will just tell people to get a cable too

Sony use to be the leader in consumer electronics. Once upon a time they made the very best CRT TV's and monitors, but over the last two to three decades they started farming out their manufacturing to third world countries that produced much less reliable products. I do think they are on their way back to higher standards, while in keeping with competitive prices. The Sony HDMI DVD player above is a great example of this. It's well made, quiet, smooth operation makes it a pleasure to use. No distractions to it while watching a movie. It's barely noticeable, and even the tiny green "on" light only gives the slightest hint the unit is in operation. The only thing I found inconvenient is that the remote can control the TV but has no function to change the TV channels. That means you are stuck using two remotes.

Bought this to replace similar Sony that lasted for about 2 years before the remote stopped working. Nothing wrong with remote - the player would accept commands from remote. After 2 days, the new Sony player did the same thing. Remote would not work. Got a third one, and after 2 weeks, the same thing happened. They used to be a dependable product, now they are just junk.

This was easy to set up (to replace a friend's dead DVD player) and use and merged well with her Sony HD TV. It should come with its own HDMI cable and add the $10, but again this unit is well worth the money and more. They should stock them in the stores too !

I have had this Sony DVD unit for several months now. It performs flawlessly and upgrades DVD picture quality via interpolation quite well... actually better than my last Sony DVD player did. I personally will NOT upgrade to a Blu-Ray unit, so if you just need a great DVD player to handle an existing collection of straight DVDs, this unit is perfect.
