The covered top doesn't fully put him in the shade but if you position it properly you can get good coverage. It came assembled which I love and folds up so it's super portable! I didn't love how hunched my baby's chin was into his chest in this so I wouldn't want baby falling asleep in it (which it's not intended for anyway)! Overall, it's a good product and will be great for watching big sister's soccer games this fall.
