When it comes to the design of the Opal, it is designed to use the older ice on the bottom to make more ice. This means you can have a steady supply of delicious nugget ice. Also, if the unit is in a warmer area or enclosed space, this can also cause the ice to melt a bit faster. Let us know if you have any questions, we're always happy to help. - Jonathon@GEA
