Here in the Northeast we just got pounded with a winter blizzard, power out for 5 days on my street. Our Generac 6500 performed up to my expectations and then some. 90+ hours of straight run time and didnt skip a beat. We had this unit wired direct from our service panel to tranfer breaker panel with an outside outlet and 20' cord. 2- Frig's, heat, kitchen lights and outlets, microwave, livingroom lights and outlets, 3 bedrooms lights, office lights and outlets, garage lights, 2 bathrooms lights, cable, internet, tv..

It's kinda scary purchasing something you hope you never have to use, but for this generator ... that's the case! I expect good results sometime in the future; and I base my expectation on the homework I did on Generac Products. I think the best way to assure its reliability if I do not use it for 5-10 years, may be to simply store it as purchased ... but I have decided to run it 30 minutes every month instead. I'd like very much to give you all another review every 5 years !!

i highly recommend everybody having a generac generator as an emergency backup after going through hurricane irma and having no power for 8 days and we lost all of our perishable food in deep freeze and refrigerator because we did not get generator until after the storm but so glad i ordered it because of the unbearable heat in florida and we were able to run window ac's and well to take showers very satisfied.

I had this delivered to the house. The packaging was very good. No damage. I did all the assembly within a half hour. Filled it with oil and put some gas into the tank. I used the electric start and it started up with no problems. Temp outside was less than 5 F. I bought the electric start only for my wife so she could start it up if I wasn't home. The manual provides all information needed to star and maintain the unit.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first thing I noticed when receiving the generator. It is heavy and the packaging met the needs so it was protected during shipping. There was even a couple strips is 1/2” wood to protect the parts. You will need a couple people to load it into a pickup bed. The first thing I do with all equipment is read the manual and check for missing parts. One very small issue, the bolts in the parts list did not match what was shipped. There were 4 of the M8 bolts and the list showed 8. There were 2 bolts in the. Kit that were not on the parts list but matched where they were needed to be installed. This is not an issue with the unit at all but I do like when the parts list matches what is sent. On to assembly. There isn’t a lot to do to get the unit ready for use. Bolt on the wheels, frame feet and handle. Then add oil and install the included battery and it’s ready for use. The tires are run flat tires and once mounted with the feet the unit sits level. After turning on the breakers and filling with gas I hit the electric start and it fired right up on the second try. I plugged it into my 5th wheel camper. I used my sure protector and it did not show any faults. I then turned on every light, refrigerator, microwave, exhaust fans, two air conditioners, and the furnace. The unit had no trouble at all keeping up with the load in fact pretty much seemed to just idle through. The unit is a tri-gas unit. I plugged in the easy quick connect propane hose and hooked it up to a 20lb propane bottle. I turned the fuel selector knob from gas to propane and it switched flawlessly with just a slight hesitation. I didn’t notice any interruptions with the loads when it switched. After letting the unit set for a few days I pulled it out of the garage and rolled it outside. The very sturdy u shaped handle is great and makes rolling it around a breeze. The temperature was 45 degrees so cool but not cold out. I wanted to try starting with the pull cord. It is a big engine to pull start (500cc) and it started on the second pull. It may have fired on the first pull had I anticipated the force needed to pull it. I let it warm up and plugged in my welder. I don’t typically use a welder on a generator but it is a need occasionally. My welder is a Vulcan Mimas 215, I’d prefer a Miller or Lincoln but I work with what I have. I used it to weld using.30 flux core on 3/16” steel. A little heavier than suggested on 120V power. As soon as I started welding it tripped the 120V GFI reception the generator. Usually I don’t plug into a GFI receptacle for welding but I reset it so I could see if it would actually run my welder. The second time it didn’t trip and yes ran my welder as well as if plugged into shore power. I don’t know why the receptacle didn’t trip the second time but it held. Al in all I love this generator and am anxious to get a transfer switch set up on my electrical panel for the house. And have back up power during a power outage and have a good outlet to run and exercise this beast with a good load on it monthly. The noise this unit produced was not that bad, a lot quieter than others I’ve dealt with.

We recently purchased the Generac GP6500 and couldn’t be more pleased with this product. This generator had its fair share of use after the recent damage caused by hurricane Florence in the coastal region of Eastern North Carolina. The GP6500 generator was easy to assemble and started up on the first pull out of the box. The generator ran continually throughout the daytime hours for a solid week after the hurricane had passed through our area knocking out power to our subdivision. We had NO issues or complications with our Generac GP6500 while we were waiting to have our power restored. Also, we noticed that the full burn of the generator seemed to be more efficient than expected. This was a major relief to us since all gas stations in our area were closed due to lack of available refueling trucks as well as there was no electricity to operate the gas pumps at the stations. Not having to worry about running out of gas for our generator was very reassuring. Not only did we use our Generac GP6500 after we lost power at our home we also continued to use it as we participated in various clean-up projects for others homes who suffered severe storm damage in which utility power was not able to be restored. The GP6500 was small enough to be transported to various worksites as home repairs were needed throughout our region. Again, we used our generator all throughout the day while we operated electrical equipment to assist with clean up and various home salvaging activities. We’ve since winterized our Generac GP6500 (which was simple and easy to perform) and have it stored and ready for the next time it is needed. Unfortunately, living close to the coast in North Carolina results in yearly threats of hurricanes. However, we are comforted knowing that we are prepared for any future storms and power outages with our Generac GP6500 ready to go in the garage. Good Job Generac!

I bought 3 years ago and used it this past 3 days straight with no issues. I ran 3 refrigerators, all the lights in the house, garage door openers, electric heater, coffee pot, and toaster over. Really impressed with the power output. Plus the tank is fairly big, and last a long time once topped off. Only con is that it is really loud.

The generator was very easy to setup out of the box, with clear & concise instructions. Filling was easy as was connecting the ground wire. This is no small generator and has a lot of power, The pull start was easy to operate. It is not a quiet generator, by any means. So, it's not for going camping. We bought it to have as backup for the major appliances in our house. It has useful 220V connections as well as 110V.

After the several months of Severe Mid -West weather and constant power outages! We up graded our generator to the GP6500. It was very easy to set up as well as to use! The features that is nice to have on this unit were the large 7 1/2 gal gas tank, easy to pull start and power to supply my entire house!! This unit is not only great for home back up power but we also took it on our hunting trip and made the trip just a little more like home!

I purchased this during a snowstorm that knocked out our power for a couple of days. We have a newborn and therefore a lot of breastmilk in our freezer that we needed to keep frozen. This was EXTREMELY easy to start and run and then hook up not just the freezer, but also our fridge. It ran for the stated 11+ hours with an upright fridge and freezer and saved everything we needed. The power this specific model provides is more than enough for us and I will hook it up to our furnace down the road if it happens again as well as electrical. In a residential area, it is a little loud, but I presume with snow and nothing else on or running around the neighborhood, it was only maximized because of the circumstances. I will certainly take this with us camping or tailgating down the road as well.
