Tje product will will my needs if there is a storm like sandy again

Last year after storm Sand we were without power for 13 days. I don't ever want to be in a situation like that again, Cold showers and food wasted. I had an old Volt generator that would only run 90 minuets on a fuel refill. then had to wait for it to cool down to start over again, The features of the Generac generator I purchased will run 10 hours and has an battery start. Being 73 years old that is a life saver , i should have done this sooner . I need this for the next storm. Love the product

Good value for the features

We chose the 6500E over other models due to it's many positive reviews from multiple sites and its features for the price. I especially like the number of available 20 amp outlets plus the 20 foot power cord. I specifically wanted the electric start and the automatic voltage regulation, and the rubber outlet covers are a great addition! Cons: The set-up instruction card had several minor errors and omissions. For example - the set up instructions did not mention that the fuel line was disconnected at the shut-off valve and needed to be connected by the owner. Good thing I saw it during my initial inspection. Suggestions: An onboard voltage meter (and maybe a manual voltage adjustment) would be a great addition, so the output voltage can be monitored without needing a separate meter. And it would be nice to have an onboard power meter showing amperage draw. But, for the price this model is perfectly adequate for our needs. Unfortunately, the week we received our generator, the price dropped $50. Wish I had waited one more week.

Reliable And Dependable

Purchased this generator due to a prolonged power outage in the Northeast in October. Didn't want that to happen again, especially during the cold winter months. Setup and startup were a breeze, and the generator fired up on the first pull. The piece of mind knowing I will have back up power for our furnace and essential appliances is worth the cost paid.

This unit meets all of my expectations so far

I purchased this unit to replace an older smaller unit. It runs quiet for its size, and the large fuel tank means I don't have to fill up in the middle of the night. It is installed in such a way that I can feed the entire 200AMP Panel, and choose which circuits I want to power. I used it during our last snow storm, and put 14 Hrs on it of continuous use other than to shut down to fill it once. I am able to run my furnace, Well pump, Sewer pump, upright freezer, 20Cu ft refrigerator, 1.5 Cu Ft refrigerator, one light in each of the 3 bedrooms, a light in the living room, and a cable box & flat screen TV, and night lights in the bathrooms. If you have children, you understand the need for the TV and night lights! I usually leave about 10 circuits powered on, and monitor what is used on each circuit. Do you homework, figure out your wattage draw, and you will have no problems. Just be sure to balance your load draw. I chose the Generac because of their products are built well, and have a great track record. Best investment by far to keep a "happy family" when the power goes out.

I tought it wasn't going to be powerfull enough.

We live in western Massachusetts and in October we got hit with the snow storm and we lost power for 7 days because of it. Luckily I had the GP6500E in my garage ready go. I also had a 6 circuit transfer switch connected to my main electrical box which is a nice thing to have. Connected to the transfer switch I had all of the lights in the house including the outside lights, furnace, water heather, 1 refrigerator, 1 freezer, 1/3 of the outlets in the house where I had 2 LCD TVs with game consoles and satellite boxes and 1 LED TV with satellite box. I ran the generator between 8 to 12 hours a day when it was need it and let me tell you it handled everything very well and efficiently, little loud when near it but when inside the house and away from it won’t bother you at all. One night a ran it all night to try it and it ran 11 hours on a full tank with enough fuel left to keep running for a little longer, (remember only a few things running at night like furnace, frig., etc. (average 500 watts) very little wattage used here only when they kick in). Good thing to have when you need it specially in cold weather.

Great to have as a backup for extreme weather

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We live in a place that is prone to have extreme climate, and sometimes the power can go out when it’s either too hot or too cold. A generator is a necessity for those occasions, particularly to help keep the house at an adequate temperature - whether by powering AC or help turn on space heaters and/or fans. What I like about this product is that it is tri fuel - it can work with gasoline, propane, and natural gas, depending on your needs. We tested it out with gasoline and it worked just fine. Gasoline is also how you can get the most wattage and longest run time. Noise level is pretty ok as well, about what expected for a generator this big. The unit is very heavy, which makes a little bit tricky to get it out of the box for the first time. But once you install the wheels and handle, moving it around becomes super easy. Assembly would also be easier if it included the hex tool, but otherwise it was ok and pretty straightforward. We now need a natural gas hookup so we can have the option to use any of three methods it needed.

Can not start

I could not start my 6500. So I took off the carb. And cleaned it. After that it started right up. The next weekend I started it up no problem. This weekend, I tried to start it, no luck. I have new gas with stable in it. Does anyone else have this problem?

It has what the average household needs.

Only time will tell if it holds up well over the long haul, or if the investment was a poor decision. Realistically I don't believe it is meant for heavy duty service, but if taken good care of, and with only emergency duty, I will expect a long service life (many years) of reliable service.

Easy to use and not loud.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a storm electric was out for 28 hours. I have a smaller generator already but this one much bigger allowed me to hook up much needed appliances and other electric items. Easy to transport because on wheels not heavy or bulky at all. Easy to store. I can even work this without a problem. Quick start and not as loud as the one I had already. Also when we go camping it’s great to have with us. So easy to travel with.

Great product for the price

This generator works great and I got it for a great price on sale. I havn't used it much, but it starts right away and seems to have a lot of power. The only complaint I have is that getting the cotter pins in for the wheels is a bit hard how they have them positioned. Other than that the generator seems to be great so far.
