Bought this unit to get us through the storm last year. It did it's job well for the first 50 hours, then it quite running. It won't start and run. Pretty sure it's the electronics, the CO2 sensor. Saw a U tube video of the exact model doing the exact thing. Bad unnecessary CO2 sensor. So it sits there broken waiting for me to find a shop, time, and help to load it.

We live in western Massachusetts and in October we got hit with the snow storm and we lost power for 7 days because of it. Luckily I had the GP6500E in my garage ready go. I also had a 6 circuit transfer switch connected to my main electrical box which is a nice thing to have. Connected to the transfer switch I had all of the lights in the house including the outside lights, furnace, water heather, 1 refrigerator, 1 freezer, 1/3 of the outlets in the house where I had 2 LCD TVs with game consoles and satellite boxes and 1 LED TV with satellite box. I ran the generator between 8 to 12 hours a day when it was need it and let me tell you it handled everything very well and efficiently, little loud when near it but when inside the house and away from it won't bother you at all. One night a ran it all night to try it and it ran 11 hours on a full tank with enough fuel left to keep running for a little longer, (remember only a few things running at night like furnace, frig., etc. (average 500 watts) very little wattage used here only when they kick in). Good thing to have when you need it specially in cold weather.

I purchased this unit to replace an older smaller unit. It runs quiet for its size, and the large fuel tank means I don't have to fill up in the middle of the night. It is installed in such a way that I can feed the entire 200AMP Panel, and choose which circuits I want to power. I used it during our last snow storm, and put 14 Hrs on it of continuous use other than to shut down to fill it once. I am able to run my furnace, Well pump, Sewer pump, upright freezer, 20Cu ft refrigerator, 1.5 Cu Ft refrigerator, one light in each of the 3 bedrooms, a light in the living room, and a cable box & flat screen TV, and night lights in the bathrooms. If you have children, you understand the need for the TV and night lights! I usually leave about 10 circuits powered on, and monitor what is used on each circuit. Do you homework, figure out your wattage draw, and you will have no problems. Just be sure to balance your load draw. I chose the Generac because of their products are built well, and have a great track record. Best investment by far to keep a "happy family" when the power goes out.

Unit came with a dead battery and defective. Tried charging it with the charger they sent with it and it did absolutely nothing. Put in on a real battery charger and that didn't work. Generac said to put this generator in the trunk of my car and take it to a dealer. I certainly can't do that; it's too heavy and it won't fit. I called an authorized Generac dealer and she said most Generacs come with dead batteries. Even her replacement battery is frequently DEAD. This is the last time I purchase anything from Generac as their product quality is much lower than in years past. NEVER get a generator that can't be started manually with no battery. I will try a Dewalt or Kohler product next time.

No major loads put on it yet, but so far so good on this generator. Starts easy, not too loud. Nice that it came with a start up kit, wheels, and a handle which seems to be extras on other brands. Idle control when running with no load would be nice, but it wasn't a deal killer. I like the steel fuel tank and the quality of the fuel shot off valve. Went with the portable unit with manual transfer switch when the old standby failed. Will be nice to have it in the garage, out the elements, ready to go when when needed.

Well built, it ran go on test run started right up. Won't know any more until I have to use it.

Great generator but hard to find parts for it when you look online.

Great product glad we have it but hope we don't have to use the it for a while.
