We’ve had 2 of these ice makers and they ALWAYS break. I cleaned it every week and descaled it every 2 to 3 weeks. It makes a high pitched noise. The These ice machines were not made for last longer than 8 months. That’s a lot of money to spend in a product that doesn’t last long.

I purchased this product a few months ago and so far we love it. It does make a bit of noise while producing ice but you quickly get used to it. You can program it to produce ice at night but I have not bothered with this yet. It requires regular cleaning (once per week) if you want clean, good tasting ice. The only issue I have encountered is the machine has incorrectly registered as "add water" a few times when the sidetank is full. I checked my hoses and ensured they were not pinched or blocked.

We are really, really happy with the Opal! It has exceeded our expectations and gives just enough ice to service four people WELL. I was initially intimidated with the "cleaning" process. But, the instructions are very clear and cleaning is not a hassle. I clean it about every two weeks...but I do use filtered water.

This is my second GE countertop ice maker in the past year. The first was the early model with all it's all it's little quirks and it's being impossible to keep the mold out. I mean internally covered in mold. Aside from it leaking all over, that's why I upgraded to the Opal 2. It's a much nicer looking machine. Many parts are easier to get to and clean more easily. The nice, soft, crunchy hospital style ice is still wonderful to chew and exactly what I was looking for. If you can be committed to cleaning it regularly, it's great.

I can’t match the in-depth reviews others have posted, but did want to mention one “con” that I didn’t see mentioned a lot. This machine is a bit noisy. My wife complained about it endlessly the first few days, but after the ice bin is full (and it doesn’t need to make any ice) the machine is silent. She does love the ice and uses it all the time, so it was still a worthwhile purchase. But I wanted to post this info in case it’s going on the counter in your normally quiet kitchen (like mine) so you know what to expect.

I purchased this countertop ice maker, after doing a looking at numerous options. I was not happy with the large solid cubes, that my refrigerator made. I love the small size and brittleness of the cubes, that this unit produces! This makes ice fast enough for my needs. I could see someone needing more ice for a group setting or a larger family. I plan ahead and I bag up a few gallon bags of ice and place them in a cake pan, to freeze more completely, before breaking them up and placing the small cubes into my refrigerator's built-in ice dispenser.

This ice machine is awesome! Our ice maker went out on our refrigerator and I had already purchased this for my bar. We moved it into our kitchen since it is quiet and perfect size for the counter. The ice production is quick it only takes a few minutes for it to make enough ice for our family of 4 and including guests. It is easy to install and use. Love this product.

Absolutely love the ice but the machine makes some very loud noises. I previously owned another ice maker at a much lower price point that failed after 1 year so I upgraded to this machine but for the price I’m surprised at how loud it is. Especially because I bought the 2.0.

Luckily my opal ice maker broke within the return period. It was making a horrible grinding noise and did not make ice. When it worked it leaked twice all over my wood floors. I thought paying extra would be insuring I would have a product that lasts. Nope.

We pretty much love everything about this icemaker the only thing that would make this better is if there was an option for a water line in to feed the machine that would make this ice machine hands-down without a doubt the absolute best ice machine on the market
