I had the Opal 1 and while good, it had a number of issues with the challenges of keeping it clean and mold free and also with air pockets causing the machine to overheat. I purchased the Opal 2 and found it much better in all regards. Makes ice much faster, Stays cleaner longer, quieter and doesn’t run constantly. The only thing I don’t like is the control button. For one the placement of “invisible” power button just above the ice container makes it very easy to accidentally turn the machine off when pulling out the ice container. This is awkward and in a busy household easy for the machine to get turned off and then no ice! Otherwise the ice production is terrific and I love it. Price point on these is pretty high and I feel the first one was really a beta machine and very difficult to maintain. Now what do I do with the old machine?

Our family is loving having an always ready supply of the best just right crunchy nuggets of ice in view on the countertop. From ice water to cold smoothies to iced coffee, all are much easier to make when your ice is just a scoop away. Game changer.

I am astonished at the volume and quality of the ice that this puppy makes! It’s not for a person who just wants to plug and play— my guess is that the nugget ice machine isn’t there yet, at least not the home version at a reasonable price. This guy needs frequently filled manually, and regularly sanitized and descaled. But great ice requires a great commitment and this bad boy is worth it!

I purchased the Ice Maker from amazing. I was super excited when it came in. After seeing some reviews on Facebook I became concerned because of all the bad experiences people were talking about. So far I have not have any issues. I was supposed it asked to descale so soon after purchase but overall I am excited to see how long it works. Depending how long it last I would purchase it again. I love the app feature because I can see if the ice maker needs attention. Overall I would recommend trying out this ice maker if you have the extra money or want the convenience of having an app.

We love our new ice machine. Works great and the wifi feature is so convenient to set a schedule and control when I am away from home. We have noticed some noises and it seems to need cleaning more quiet often then I expected so I am trying to understand if its just our water, but overall we love it and are happy with our purchase.

Every time I had more than two people in the house, I found myself asking someone to bring ice. Finally, I decided to get this ice machine. Though I plan to have electricity added in my pantry this summer so I don't have to have the machine on the kitchen counter, for now we are using it on the counter. We love the ease of maintaining is and we love the ice.

Only owned for a few days but so far I am very pleased. Soft small pellet ice just as expected. My only disappointment was that once the drawer is full of ice it doesn't continue to cool or keep ice frozen. Unit shuts down and ice slowly melts. This may be an energy saving thing, but I just wish it would keep that ice frozen until used then make more as needed. Otherwise I am thoroughly enjoying this ice maker. It is mostly what I hoped it would be and highly recommend if you are looking for a soft, small pellet ice machine.

This is my 3rd Nugget ice maker. My first one lasted about six years then cratered. I bought a new one, but it was making a really loud noise, so I had to send it back. Now I’ve got a new one. With the ease of just using filtered water or bottled water and not having to hook it up to a waterline, makes the icemaker Wonderful & easy to use… Just need a plug-in. Love love love the ‘like sonic’ ice. I’m spoiled now and hate to be without one.!!

I can't really say a whole lot because it's her feelings more than mine but I will say she is absolutely loving this thing she doesn't care about chilling sodas anymore she turns it on in the morning and it runs until the evening just so she has fresh eyes cops and cups worth but I can't say I'm glad she's getting her water at least haha but I'll seriousness this product is great it's a bit heavy but it's all a construction the additional reservoir really makes it easy to keep it going it is shiny so it matches most of the appliances we got for a wedding honestly great purchase.

First off the GE Opal 2.0 Ice Maker itself is fantastic with the type of and production of ice that it makes. SONIC ICE. There is no question about it when it comes to this. It is second to none. Its fast, quiet (slight hum) and holds & keeps ice available with having to continuously run the machine. FLAWS: Cleaning it can be a large pain in the butt depending more on the placement in your situation. If you have to move it to a sink, its not a light weight machine, so keep that in mind. The wifi app allows very basic integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. Like turn on and turn off the machine and light. That's it. You can not ask them what is the water level or if it's time to add water. They have no clue. There are no PUSH NOTIFICATIONS to your phone like every other app out there in the world for Smart Appliances or Lights. Example you go to work and want to turn on you machine on the drive home (something happened while you were away and water in the system. You will not know until you arrive home) It would be great to a Push Notification stating that if you use your Voice Assistant to turn it on. The only way to know is if you go into the app which defeats Voice App integration in the first place. I'm not sure how dumb a company has to be or how important this functionality is when it comes to using your voice to operate a machine you paid $$$$ because of getting such features and not fully delivering on it, but for me, I feel cheated at this price point. Last Flaw: it does have a scheduler, again no Push Notification if you run out of water, that is easy to program. But there is not a scheduler for the built-in light feature. This is controlled by the app and manual only. WHY? With the average ice makers of this size are a lot less expensive, why am I paying so much more, without getting so much more features I assumed would be present at this price point?
