We would recommend adjusting the temperature dial upwards as needed, and also verifying that the frozen button is not selected. To ensure evenness throughout the toasting process, make sure that the toaster is sitting on a flat, even surface. If the toaster fails due to defect in materials or workmanship, perhaps you'd rather take advantage of your warranty and make a claim.
