The sodium that is in our bone broth comes from two sources — the bones themselves and a small proportion of added organic sea salt. During the long simmer times, the minerals found in the bones leach into the water. The majority of our sodium comes from this source and only a small percentage is credited to the added organic sea salt. Naturally, occurring sodium has many health benefits, you can read more about it here: https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/minerals/sodium.html If you are monitoring your sodium intake because of high blood pressure, our chicken bone broth is a good option because of the ratio of sodium to potassium. Studies have shown that aiming to eat twice as much potassium as sodium may be more effective in managing blood pressure than just reducing sodium alone. (http://www.who.int/elena/titles/guidance_summaries/potassium_intake/en/) The World Health Organization also recommends keeping sodium to potassium ratio of 1:2 to help manage blood pressure and the natural increase that comes with age.
