They are thick, they absorb well and I haven't noticed a smell so, odor protection? The size is amazing, covers so much space. These work just as well as the ones hospice sends. There is no soak through. They do not rip if you need to reposition them. We have been quite happy with them.

Liquids dont tranfer on to the sheets either! The cover up the whole bed and still has extra room for a bigger space ! I love these!
