You just plug this into any outlet. You do have to buy refills for it though. It uses a sticky refill cartridge that the bugs get stuck to.

It's really easy to put together and all you have to do is plug it in. As a bonus, the blue light that it emits can double as a night light! There are no chemicals in the device so it's safe to have around children and pets. There is a removable sticky piece that is easy to change out when the pests get stuck to it. This is perfect for a fruit fly infestation.

I feel alright using this in my kitchen (pictured) around food and my pets for this reason, which is really nice as summer and fruit fly season are approaching. The blue light is not too distracting (unless, presumably, you are a bug) or bright. My only con with this is the cost, it seems really expensive for a glorified sticky pad that you have to replace pretty regularly but I'm definitely open to continued use to see how well it keeps working.

In looking for a non-toxic pest control solution at home especially around the compost pail, the STEM Flying Insects Light Trap looks to be a sleek and effective way to get the job done. It only took about two minutes from unboxing to getting the plug-in operational, with the longest time being to remove the liners from the sticky pad. While most solutions out there provide only one sticky side, this unit provides it on both sides with what feels like a more effective adhesive. The design is modern and sleek, with a nice soft blue glow when plugged in with no noise or anything else to think about, making it a plug it in and forget about it solution.

I plugged it up where we keep our fruit on the counter to help with fruit flies. There is no harmful chemicals and it also is a great night light.

Honestly am pleasantly surprised, as I was iffy on how well if at all it would attracted bugs. I absolutely love this product! Within a few minutes of plugging it in I noticed a few small nats swarm it and get stuck, which I didn't even notice in the house at all prior. I also love the blue light it emits, it's pleasant to look at and keeps the area lit in the dark which is an added bonus! I will be purchasing more of these for the other rooms of my house! If you haven't yet I highly recommend you do!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has replaceable little sticky mats that are easy to install and remove once it gets filled with bugs. The light attracts them and then they get stuck. It works as an awesome nightlight as well! I feel safe using it around my children and pets.
