No directions needed although directions were included. I love that it also doubles as a night light which is great! The sticky paper is so sticky and seems sure to trap the bugs that come in from the front door. I love how simple it is. It doesn't scream of being an insect trapper. I enjoy the front door pathway and don't want to think about bugs - so it's great with me that it appears simply as a night light. I am happy that buying replacements for this are more economical that buying the entire thing. I am very pleased with this product.

I have put the product in a small room that separates the garage and house as it is very practical there. The product takes up little to no space. The product works for it's intended purpose and is worth the price tag that is on it.

One is the actual plug-in device with a plastic plate that lights up when plugged into your outlet. The other piece is a flat blue cartridge that has sticky substance on both sides and your insert into the plug-in device. Insects are attracted to the light and become trapped on the sticky cartridge. The cartridge would need to be changed either when it becomes full of insects or after 14 days. This is not something I would recommend for effective flying insect removal.

It looks identical to the Raid Essentials. It works as intended, the bugs get stuck on the sticky part in the back.
