Previously we had a nice namebrand inner spring, 1.5" pillow top mattress, with an added 2" memory foam pad and a mattress pad heater. It was a good combo but after 20 years it was developed a 'valley' in the middle so our sleep was not as pain-free as we wanted and it was sometimes a 'challenge' to climb out of the middle so we decided to get another one. My significant other found this purple site and we were both intrigued by the support/cradle combo of the purple and base foams. She also liked the description of how it sleeps cooler as she typically has 2-4 hot flashes a night and has to throw off all the covers. We ordered the purple king, enjoyed the numerous email updates on the shipping status and got the bed. A) It is 150 lbs - there are 2 handles on each end which really help to carry it. B) The attached cutter really does go easily through the straps and all just like they say. C) It does open quickly once finally cut loose so be prepared and don't leave fragile things on headboards/dressers nearby it case it unfolds and hits one of those. It was fully uncompressed in a short time and we really liked the way it gently cradled while also giving full support. Compared to our previous combo, it was not as 'cushy' as we were used to - but it did a great job of keeping the back aligned whether on our side or back just as advertised. Our first night, we used a set of high thread count cotton sheets (no stretch) and discovered the sheet does make a difference in the performance of the purple foam cradling. Purple recommends a stretchy sheet so we got one for night 2+ and the stretchy sheet was a significant improvement to allow the Purple to do its thing. As for the cooling - she has not had to throw the sheets off yet due to a hot flash, even after a few weeks! Neither of us feels the other person move or toss or flip or get out of bed either - the 'isolation' factor is fantastic. So - why are we not keeping it? Two reasons. First, we realized we both prefer more sinkage (a 'cushier' feel), something lower on the firmness scale. Two - for me (the guy) it slept too cool. While she loved it, I was feeling cold and typically didn't sleep well because of that. I could wear more to bed to offset that but I am a very picky sleeper (she teases me about how much effort I go through to get everything just right) and that was not something I wanted to do. After a month, I had to admit that my sleep was not as good as I wanted it to be for the next 5-20 years. She would have kept it if was just her but we had agreed that whatever we bought had to work well for both of us. Let me take a minute to discuss the customer service before I finish - it is fantastic! There was a minor issue with the mattress - that had no affect on its performance - but when we called Purple at 8:30pm (presumably to leave a message), the phone was answered and the issue immediately and pleasantly resolved. Plus when we decided to not keep the mattress, they were again professional, pleasant and expressed again they wanted us to be happy with the purchase. So the mattress does everything they advertise, their customer service is exceptional and if it sounds like this is a mattress that could work for you then we would still encourage you to give it a try.

After having slept on this purple mattress for the first week, I'll never buy another brand. My wife and I are both taller, and we live very active lives, so having a reliable mattress was the most important consideration for us. I've ever slept better.

Really love this mattress. It provides support without any pain. It is like you are floating on the bed. Also feels cooler than a regular or memory foam mattress. Love that the material instantly goes back to the regular shape as you move unlike memory foam which takes time to puff back up. Overall I am a fan and when the time comes I will go to Purple first again!

it is an amazing feeling to awake up in the morning and feel refreshed and loose. As someone who would constantly toss and turn at night to find a comfortable position, I was impressed with supportive the mattress and how easily I was able to move without feeling sunk into the mattress.

I noticed many people are not adding which Purple mattress they are rating which is important since I looked at four and found the Purple 3 was perfect for my wife and I. We both have past injuries that affect what type of mattress helps us sleep and we have been Tempurpedic customers until now. I highly recommend that you go to a store that has each of the Purple mattresses on display and try each one out to determine which one is right for you.

First off, the packaging on the mattress had been damaged and taped back up before it was delivered to our house so the special "cutter" for opening the mattress wrapping was not even.in the package. That was definitely underwhelming. Second, we unrolled the mattress onto our bed frame which only had slats since the purple website said a box spring was not required. We sat on the bed a few minutes after unrolling and our butts immediately sank all the way down to the slats under the mattress. I'm not a super heavy guy, not even 200 pounds and my girlfriend is barely 120 and we sank right down into the mattress. If there is a time period where the mattress need a to "inflate " then they need to make that clear in the unwrapping process. We did the raw egg test with the mattress just for fun and it passed but I'm still underwhelmed with the overall delivery and quality considering I was really looking forward to how great this mattress was going to be. It's comfortable, don't get me wrong, I was just expecting more.

I will admit, the first week--I was considering returning the mattress. I still woke up with back pain, etc. It has now been almost 3 weeks and I realized after about a week and a half that I now wake up feeling refreshed and have ZERO back pain. I bought the baseline mattress due to financial restrictions in this Covid-19 reality. Also-wasn't thrilled with the purple sheets at first either, but they warm and cool perfectly for me, and they are extremely soft. I'm 100% satisfied my purchase. Please note-the mattress is VERY heavy....the reviews are accurate. Have help getting the bag inside from delivery and setting it up and/or moving it.

I had the pleasure of being at a friends house when they had just received 2 Purple mattresses. I got to check them out before I ordered mine. It seems to take an inordinate amount of time to receive the product, but I guess it was worth it. I had issues with my old mattress at night. My hip would bother me and I tossed and turned all night. I do not experience that now, and I am grateful.

I ordered an original Purple king size for my beach condo rental. Also bought the Purple platform. I never sleep well due to severe arthritis and fibromyalgia pain. I couldn't believe how well I slept the 1st night. The 2nd and 3rd nights were amazing! I hardly moved all night! I couldn't believe it. Now, I am determined to have one at home. Saving my money!!

I'm a pretty light guy at 140 lb. One side of the mattress has softened to the point that I can feel the wire bed frame underneath. And if you want to lay in the middle of the bed, forget about it. I have mixed feelings about the mattress and maybe I could have gotten something nicer for the same price. It's definitely unique. I'll give it that.
