Radar works extremely good. Was able to see a Texas State Trooper in the darkness of night with almost a 1.5 mile distance to close. Gave ample time to slow down.

Nice, small and easy to set up device. I think the range might not be the highest out there, but it seems adequate without going to devices that cost twice as much.

Modern features make this the best radar detector I’ve ever owned…I’m very impressed by the distance covered…many features…I’m still learning though the default settings are best choices for me…I like it…

Instructions are very clear and detector is easy to use. This one is much better than anything Cobra offers. The name fits as it does detect at a long distance.

It works great !!!! I didn't realize how many cops I drive by until I got this detector, and what's even better it gives you a long range warning.

After getting flustered with random false alerts and undetected true alerts from my Whistler, it was time for an upgrade. I decided upon the R3 due to its step up of Ka detection over its counterpart, the DFR7, and its lockouts, as I drive a lot in a college town. I’ve only had this for a week, and it’s already well worth the price tag. Don’t get fooled with the quiet ride that you get. The effective BSM filters make my previous RD look like a junkyard item, while both of the Ka bands I just received were from the law, just as I was tempted to put the pedal while driving late at night. Its ergonomic controls and sleek design the screen settings that can match your car or your fav color also make it very stylish and sturdy on the windshield. Plus the box is cool and makes you feel empowered! ;) LOVE LOVE LOVE MY R3 AND CANT WAIT TO SEE WHERE THIS THING WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE ME!

For the price, it is a decent unit. There were some others I would have preferred, but due to time constraints, price, and availability, it seems to do a good job. The price was reduced to $299 ($100 off), but delivery was available within 24 hours. I have no regrets, but there were some other units with a few other options available, which I would have liked, such as wifi for updates. This would have been a 5-star detector 10-15 years ago at $499, but for the price and its options, it is a solid 4-star. I can note that the false alarms are minimal. I ignored one at 5 miles over and received a warning. So, for that reason and several others, you can have a reasonable expectation, even with instant on, that there is a radar or laser in the vicinity.

after reviewing the different type of radar detectors, I think the R7 is a better deal and a better quality radar detector
