Can not be stored outside. Even the slightest amount of rain will get in these. I used them to store hardwood chunks like hickory, cherry, and apple wood. They got soaked time and time again. Even when I put them under the roof, the small amount of rain the blew in sideways got it. These are expensive, hard to open, and not anywhere near water tight. Maybe use them inside for cereal. If you put wood pellets in here, they will get ruined. I had four of the them. Kept for about a year newer throwing them away.

I use one of these for our dry catfood stored in garage and the other for smoker pellets on the deck. I usually keep it stored under the covered pellet smoker because I didn't trust that it was "weather proof" as stated. Left it out under the awning on deck after Memorial Day weekend, and there had been some off and on rain throughout the week. Checked on Saturday and the pellets were ruined. Not soaked, but enough moisture got in to turn them to moist dust and enlarged moist pellets. Both purchased at Sam's Club so I will see if they'll replace my pellets because the storage container is not weather proof.

I didnt receive anything to give this review, I simply bought the catainer and wanted to give the cons. The opening at the top is really narrow. where is it for dog food and it's hard to get the scoop in there and retrieve the food. it would be better for pouring out but that's not how we use it. also it doesn't fit a full Club sized bag of dog food which is very inconvenient because that's why I bought the container. I'm going to be returning it and looking for one that's larger and has a wider opening when you flip the lid at the top.

The containers are large and strong but they changed the lids. The old ones were much higher quality, allowed opening large or to flip up a smaller pourer. The new lids are much cheaper, no flip out pourers. They don't fit tightly so require side snap latches. If you didn't ever have the old ones you will probably be happy with the purchase but if you had the older lids you will definitely see the difference in the cost savings they made for the lids.
