Although the markers are water-based and designed to wash from the skin, nearly all children's clothing, and painted walls, the dyes and pigments in the markers may react differently to various skin types, depending on a person's body chemistry. Usually, soap and water will do the trick. If there is a heavy deposit of ink on the skin and if you are unsuccessful with soap and water, try using baby wipes, baby oil, or make-up remover.
