It's a big beautiful beast that is built to last.

Ordered this after seeing some advertisements online. We are a youth baseball family so we were excited about all the features it had for games and tournaments. I was a little worried about the build quality as a lot of times these "extra features" tend to be cheaply made things that break off or don't last BUT that is NOT the case with this cooler. This thing is build to last from end to end. It's a beast. One thing to keep in mind is it is about 30-40% bigger than a traditional cooler. You might think looking at the pics that it won't hold much because space is used for the accessories but that is not the case.

Pretty decent

It looks great and seems sturdy. Took camping recently for 4 days and was disappointed on how long it held the ice. Had to refill on second day and that is with minimum opening. The tray on the lid will not stay in place. But I still like the look and it was easily to move around.

Loved it at first… durability is lacking

I've had this cooler for about a year, I received it as a gift a year ago. I was so excited as I had been looking at this cooler for a few months. It was great at first, used it a handful of times, nothing too crazy, mostly softball tournament trips. However I have had three screws fall out of the frame underneath, the cap to keep the wheels has fallen off, and the handles now loose also. How do I fix these without it looking like some sort of Franken-cooler because these parts aren't available.

Pros and Cons

The cooler is large, holds a ton, parents were asking to put items in my cooler, several pockets, has many benefits. Looking forward to using for baseball. Negatives - heavy without ice, can’t lift on my own with ice. Handle is at a very weird angle. Cup holders doesn’t hold newer water bottles (Stanley’s, RTIC, etc). Tires need to be rubber. The plastic wheels will break in a short period of time.

Almost got it right

So far, this cooler is almost everything I hoped. The large tires and wheelbarrow style handle gives the option of push or pull and makes steps and gravel very easy to navigate. The space inside is nice and square with a flat bottom, so stacking can be very efficient. I have two complaints. 1- the inlet to the drain is almost 1.5" above the bottom off the cooler so even if you tilt it up, it won't drain completely. 2-the lid doesn't mechanically latch. It's the same cheap feeling push to close top that the other cheap models have.

Not so cool cooler

Cooler is very sturdy and love the storage. It's a great size between too bulky and not enough room. Very disappointed in cold and ice retention. I have had this cooler about 2 weeks and have used it every weekend camping. The longest it will hold ice is about 10 hours before its completely warm and melted. I'm from Maryland where spring & summer days range 70-85 degrees.

An even better option than any Yeti cooler!

The cooler is large in size, and his capacity is way more than enough for a large group of people looking to load up enough beverages for the night. The Igloo Trailmate has just about every option you want in a cooler for fishing, beachgoing, or camping. The ice retention is phenomenal, I loaded it with 32 pounds of ice and a 24 pack of canned beverages, and it didn’t even fill half the cooler and still had ice in it 4 days later, while the cooler was sitting outside in near hundred-degree weather. Highly recommended!

Tough, functional, do it all cooler

I owned a igloo coldmax cooler for nearly 15 years and all it ever needed was new hinges. This cooler was used on countless family camping trips and did its job. When I saw the Igloo Trailmate 70 Qt I knew this would be the cooler to replace my coldmax. So far I have been very impressed, the Trailmate was designed for people who love adventure and a cold beverage. My only gripe is the telescopic pull handle is sometime difficult to extend. The ice retention is great for a cooler that isn't rotomolded. I had a 20lb bag of ice in the cooler for the last 4 days in 75 to 80 degree weather and there is still roughly 10 lbs remaining in the cooler. The features and the price sold me on this cooler, rugged, oversized wheels, and sturdy metal base, detachable fishing rod holders that can be used for other items like umbrellas. Two bottle openers is nice as well as all the tiedown points and the tray that attaches to the pull handle. Other companies that will remain nameless would have those items available but each upgrade would cost you more and more money. The bottom-line is simple if you're not going into bear country for days on end, or you're not going to be stuck on a boat for two weeks save your money and by the Trailmate, it will go wherever you want to be and it would require a back brace and a second set of hands to get it there.

Beware on the beach

Terrible in deep sand, the only tires that would work in sand for something like this would be balloon tires. The rod holders can’t handle a surf rod (they’re to heavy) . If your going to use this on the beach for fishing you will have to make modifications. The dry compartment has a one time use gasket. That means if you open it, it will forever leak and not be dry. On hard surfaces this cooler does roll well so camping, tailgating, and picnics you will be fine.
