Awesome Product

I have two labradors and this vacuum helps keep the floor clean. I schedule it to run every morning and it has reduced the number of times that I have to get out the regular vacuum. It does a good job of picking up hair out of carpet. Pretty good obstacle avoidance as it rarely gets stuck. The self emptying base does a great job of emptying the robot's little bin. Some heavier particles don't get sucked out though. You want the self emptying base because there is no way the bin in the robot would be able to hold everything it picks up on a cleaning run if you have pets.

Not charging after 1 month of use

It worked great for the first month. After that, it stopped charging. I have cleaned all of the sensors the way described in the owners manual. I've moved the charging base to different outlets, checked all the power cables. It just won't charge, I can't reboot it because the battery is completely dead. I've tried positioning it on the charging base myself and nothing works.

Worth the price tag!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I grew up using a broom, a mop, and a traditional vacuum cleaner. Fast forward several decades and we now have products like Roomba. I plugged in the charging dock, set up the Bluetooth app and within minutes I was able to use it. Roomba will take a long time when you first “map” your house. Our downstairs took about 45 minutes. However, the next time it ran was about 30 minutes. It is strong enough to move something in the way (such as a pair of shoes), smart enough to go over lips and edges of a raised surface, but will maneuver around other objects. Be mindful that if there is a wall or table of some sort, Roomba will bump into it, adjust its angle, then repeat the process until it moves around it. Keep this in mind if you have a vase on a console table or something like that. The self emptying thing is cool, but you still have to empty the bag in the trash. I had to grab clumps of hair by hand while the smaller debris could be dumped out. Overall, I love it. However, I will still keep my broom and vacuum for quick cleanup. I see the Roomba being a good scheduled cleaner throughout the week (can be programmed). Also, it is pretty loud so keep that in mind.

Errors

This product is great when it is working I have 2 dogs who shed a lot and it has helped a ton. But now I'm constantly getting error 26 and 30 and for an $800 price tag I'm already having to replace a major part such as the cleaning module head after less than 6 months of use. I can't recommend this to someone since the maintenance is costly and the price tag is high. It works great when it's working.

I will never buy from this company again!!!!

Purchased a J7 for $700 and a few days later they dropped the price by $200. I called to get a price match refund for the $200 after 3 weeks and several phone calls to customer service (hours on hold), they told me that they only price match in the first 7 days. I argued that they have a 60 day money back return policy. They would not refund me the $200. They left me no choice other than to request a full refund. So I'll take my money else where. Worst customer service I have ever seen.

Works OK

I use this vacuum to clean a 25 by 25 foot room. The floor is tile, with a .2 inch grout gap between tiles. The machine does not like to go over the gaps. It makes a thunking noise at every gap, and sometimes turns a bit. After a while it will get lost. This was remedied (mostly) by sticking a felt pad to the underside of the vacuum. The felt pad slides along the floor, barely touching. When the rear wheel hits a tile gap, the pad supports vacuum, so the constant thumping isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. With 2 dogs that shed a lot, the vacuum is used every day, and the vacuum itself needs to be cleaned weekly. Sometimes more often than that. Large clumps of fur will clog it on occasion. This vacuum would be fine on a smooth floor with no dogs.

Only lasted two months max

Well this was a huge waist of money. I purchased this thing because they IRobot assured me that it would pick up the dog hair with no problem. I have to say at first it was great and with in the last two to three weeks it wasn't cleaning as well and then it just went RED LIGHT. Won't move or do anything. I called customer support and they walk you through taking it apart. Then tell you that it isn't working. Thanks! Called customer support and they are sending out a new robot only. So lets hope it is no the charger or the base at all. Otherwise I will be waiting another week or so. IRobot is good about sending emails with sort of updates. You get the email saying "Thank you for your purchase. Your replacement will be sent out in 4 to 5 days. And that is what you continue to receive. They do give you an order number but their system doesn't recognize it as of yet. TBD!

Almost brand new start to show errors and failing parts.

It works wonderfully...when it is not broken or displaying errors. We own a long haired golden retriever, it was the main reason the get the robot. But around a month after we got the J7 the spin brush stopped working, have not being able to make it work again and support did not come back with any answer even though it is still under "supposedly" 1 year warranty; now after only 6 months the robot is displaying error 26, did try all the suggested steps yet is not working, just contacted support in order to see it the head module which is indicated need to be replaced will be shipped as the robot is under warranty. Honestly, for not so cheap piece of robot find it annoying that after relatively short time pieces need to be replaced and / or fixed. Roomba supposedly to be the "gold" standard on these sort of machines yet i do wonder if for less money there are a more reliable robot around. My suggestion would be to do a thoroughly research before buying this one.

Very impressed, but not a necessity

This is my first time owning a Roomba and it is a nice addition to our home. In terms of the app, they've really thought of everything. After a couple of cleaning jobs, the app creates a "smart map" of your home that you can customize with dividers and labels. This comes in handy when you only want certain rooms to be cleaned. Setup was fast, but the time consuming part for me was watching it scan my condo (2 hours) to make sure it didn't knock anything over. The only hiccup during the scan was when it ran into my cat's water bowl and got a little splashed. The app allows you to add "keep out zones" to your map to avoid areas like I mentioned. I was impressed when watching it clean my dining room. The Roomba was able to clean around the table and chairs and remembered how to exit the maze of legs (see video). I left some drywall debris in my closet to test it out and it picked up everything except one bit (possibly missed because it was its first cleaning job and still mapping things out). The noise level was as expected-which is a little high-because, as I understand, this model has "pet features". I imagine pulling up pet hair would require extra suction. It is very loud when emptying itself out (although brief), so keep that in mind if you have pets sensitive to noise. Overall, it is convenient to have. However, I wouldn't consider this a necessity. With its price point in mind, I'd say it is more of a splurge if you want a break from manual vacuuming. That's not to say that I think it is overpriced, as the technology and AI is fairly sophisticated. I hope this review was helpful.

An amazing time saver worth every penny!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As someone who had a Roomba before this one, but a less "smart" version (no mapping, no self-emptying, etc), I didn't think it would be much different. To be honest, the Roomba I had sat in a corner rarely used because it was fine, but it didn't feel necessary. Let me say that now I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT and understand why people love it so much. Where to begin. The mapping of your home is amazing! I will say "Hey Google, have Roomba vacuum the kitchen only" after some messy cooking and sure enough there it goes to clean up my mess. The scheduling feature is amazing too. I have a cattle dog mix that sheds an insane amount of hair and caused us to vacuum manually every other day. It was a huge pain in the butt and if we missed a few days it was like a dust bowl in our house. I now have the Roomba scheduled for every other day at 5pm and my house is CLEAN. It's wild. I do wish I had gotten the mop functionality as well as it's the only thing that would have made this better. The fact that it self empties as well when it's completed it's job is awesome! I do hate you have to buy the bags, but that is a small price to pay for the conveniences offered otherwise. I absolutely have been recommending this to all my family and friends! Do yourself a favor and go get this vacuum you will not regret it.
