Saked butter has changed

The salted butter is 50-75% dryer / less oily than the past.

We picked up our groceries at DeSoto Mo Walmart this evening. We opened up this head of cabbage about 6” long looking like it had been plucked of old leaves and not looking fresh at all. Surprised management would allow this to be on the shelf at this point. Not worth the trip back for return. Your produce could be better quality and fresher. I will go other places for my fresh produce from now on. Too many times it has happened.

Moving on

I have been using the Light Butter with salted sweet cream on the package for years in my baking business. I stocked up with 8 boxes for a large order recently and after taste-testing the batter, I was shocked. The batter tasted overly salty, despite following my secret recipe to a tee. I sampled a tiny spec of butter after noticing ‘salted sweet cream' was not on the package as it has been for years, and thought I must have bought the wrong kind (not sweet cream) and that was causing the off flavor. I guess either the ingredients changed or they stopped making the sweet cream version. Sadly, I have to find a new butter because my customers are not happy with the cookies since this discovery was made.

We have made a variety of changes with our packaging over the years although we have not made any changes to our LAND O LAKES® Butter. At one time our packaging said "Lightly Salted" and "Sweet Cream". We have not changed the amount of salt we add to our butter even though "lightly salted" is no longer called out on the package. At this time our packaging only states "sweet cream" on the ingredient listing.

Not the same anymore

I grew up using Land O Lakes butter and would never buy anything else. But in the last 6 months or so, I've noticed the taste and texture has changed. It is almost like margarine or crisco is mixed in. The butter is slightly softer and much greasier like a crisco. I would have sworn there was oil mixed in but I don't see that in the ingredients. Now I see others are experiencing the same thing but are being told no change in recipe. Assuming that is true, the cows must be being fed differently. But there is definitely a change in taste and consistency. And...with the new packaging, the sleeve on the butter doesn't stay on as well as it used to. I have to rewrap unused butter in my own wrapping. It's as if it is a touch smaller than it used to be. But now, I'm wondering if the issue is that the butter is greasy from the texture and that is causing the wrapping to pop open,. So disappointed and now I'm going to have to find a new butter after using this brand for 50 years!

What's up with this butter.

I have enjoyed Land O Lakes butter for seriously 50 years. I have never had issues with it being left out to soften up as I enjoy the melted taste on toast. I have been able to leave it at least a week outside the fridge. But within the last five months I have noticed mold growing on the butter after two days left out. Never had an issue before so I don't know what's changed. As you can see in the photo those dark spots are mold. It's not something that was dipped into the butter as this side has not been touched. So my question is what has happened to the butter that I can't leave it out like I used to? I live in air-conditioned house it's not hot here sorry I am mystified. Any help you can give me is appreciated and the cost of the butter for me it's not cheap. I've always loved Land O Lakes so I am looking forward to your email.

Butter has changed

I have noticed in recent months these changes: The butter crumbles or even shreds (!?) when you try to slice off a pat of butter from the stick. The butter flavor is less distinct, somehow diluted. It seems to lack the high fat texture it always had, as if air was whipped into it or maybe milk instead of cream....

Higher Price/Poorer Quality

I used to buy Landolakes butter exclusively. Unfortunately, there has been a downward spiral of quality and taste in this butter, while an increase in price. The butter is really greasy and does not have the rich butter taste that it used to have. When I compared it by tasting it and then tasting other brands of butter, the difference was astounding. When I read other reviews on this site, I realized many other customers had come to the same conclusion. Like them, I will no longer be purchasing Landolakes butter.

BOOOOO to the changes!

I have aexclusively used your product for many years. Recently, I thought it tasted a bit different and I was glad to come across these reviews! I agree. I don't know what has changed but it wasn't for the good. Then, yesterday, I read that you are abandoning your mascot of 92 years. BOOOOOOOO. I AM Native and didn't find it even slightly offensive. Another one bites the dust. Sad.

Thank you for your comments. As Land O'Lakes looks toward the 100th anniversary of our cooperative in 2021, we’re seeking new ways to tell our farmer-owned story to consumers. We’re doing this by rolling out new packaging for our products, which began in 2019. The new packaging features words like “Farmer-owned” and “Since 1921” above vibrant images of land and lakes. While the packaging is new, the ingredients in the products have not changed and the same delicious products are inside. Please look for an email from us
