Excellent Streamer!

Overall, this is a great media streaming device! Two things I would like to see added to future versions: 1. Gigabit Ethernet Port (up to 10Gbps) 2. Bluetooth for wireless headsets and sharing devices. I'm sure 8k support will be coming soon, which will be a great addition as well!

Roku Ultra - good, but has issues

I bought the Roku Ultra after having many problems with my Roku Streaming Stick + The biggest issue is that the Roku Streaming Stick + would stop sending Dolby Digital to my receiver. If I did a factory reset it would work again for a while and then stop. So I purchased the most expensive Roku thinking this would solve the problem. This weekend, my Roku Ultra stopped sending Dolby Digital to my A/V receiver. I did a factory reset and it started working. Now, I think the problem may be in my receiver. it is a Denon AVR-3310ci unit. It is old and I suspect that its HDMI uses an older version of HDCP. Still, I thought Roku would publish specs telling me what their unit would work with. Also, I spent months on the Streaming Stick + working with Roku support. No mention of potential incompatibilities. I also have a Roku 3 attached to an older TV in my bedroom. it always passes the correct audio signals and my Denon has no problem if I connect it. I guess my real complaint is the Roku does not communicate the specifications and requirements of their devices so a purchaser can determine if they will work correctly.

Crashes/Restarts frequently.

My 5 year old roku was starting to freeze and crash frequently so I bought this new one for christmas. The new one freezes and needs to be restarted frequently, especially while using youtube. I frequently hit the stupid mic button when using the down arrow and there is no option to disable the voice command.

Getting worse, not better

I've had Roku devices for many years. I've currently got 4 running right now and stream exclusively using these devices. While most of the time, they work great, there are some frustrating moments. I'll focus on the problems with these devices and leave other reviews to sing the praise. Problem 1 - remote just goes nuts at times. At least several times a week, the remote refuses to work. None of the buttons respond. Pulling the batteries and plugging back in seems to always correct the problem. No idea what its doing or why it forgets the remote. I could use the remote, sit it down, pick it back up 5 minutes later and the remote not work. Something poor on design there. Problem 2 - remote refuses to operate the TV periodically. Every so often, the remote claims it doesn't work with TVs. I guess that volume switch on the side is supposed to be for looks at that moment in time. Even though the volume button may have worked 30 minutes ago, TV support is apparently not supported until I reboot the device. This is a bigger pain than when it refuses to see the remote (#1 above). Luckily this only seems to happen once every couple of weeks. Problem 3 - For whatever brain dead reason at Roku, they decided the auto power off feature that is available on my 4 year old Roku 4 can't be supported on the newest Ultra 2019 model. According to their support page, they have some excuse about a fan. What does that have to do with anything? Obviously in this day and age of streaming, internet usage and caps, you don't want to forget and leave your streaming device on. This is the biggest and most stupid decision I can imagine on Roku's technical front. Hey, lets make a streaming device, give older models a way to turn off automatically and then drop it. Overall, I happier than I'm dissatisfied with the devices. Maybe mainly because I don't really have many, if any, alternatives. The apps built into TVs are just sad at best on most models. I'll keep using these until someone knocks them off the shelf. Maybe they'll focus on their hardware more than trying to be a streaming provider one day in the future and get back to innovating.

Roku Ultra

Just received the Roku Ultra today 5/12/20 no issues during setup. I have the Roku 3 for a few years now and its still going strong. The Ultra remote has features I was looking for like controlling the TV volume/powering it off and on and happy it works with my 10 year old Vizio. Maybe soon I can afford a 4K TV to take advantage of all the Ultra

Hooked on Roku

Cancelled my cable services since prices go up every year and I really didn't watch what they offered. Heard about Roku and decided to try one and cancel my video services. I have not regretted it and have now there Rokus in my home. I now have The ability to choose what I want to watch and when to watch it. The ease of setup down to the remote control use just makes life easier! Thank you Roku!

Remote finder does NOT work

Got this higher priced model (Ultra) for the feature of (lost remote finder). It doesn't work when needed. It works only when the remote has been used in the last 6 seconds. After 9 seconds of not using the remote, it goes into a deep sleep. I'm returning it for a cheaper model.

Update to former post. I was wrong, Roku's great!

I posted a review a couple of days ago where I talked about issues I had with a new Roku Ultra. At first I had problems with the signal dropping on and off and gave Roku a pretty dismal review. Well, after I played around with possible reasons I decided to replaced the HDMI cable. Sure enough that was the real culprit, the Ultra works perfectly now, and I find myself needing to retract my first review and apologize to Roku for my error. I find myself pleased to admit I was wrong, because in the past I had been a stalwart fan of Roku products, and couldn't believe they could have made a defective device. I am such a huge fan that I had actually purchased two Roku's for my Mother in law, which she loves. Roku thanks for being fantastic as always.

HDMI CABLE

If your having problems it's probably because of an inferior HDMI cable. Because I had a long distance between my tv and WiFi router, I used a different cable. I had problems from the beginning, after doing some searches found the cable I was using was suited for Roku.

I love it!

I've had this for a few years and I bought my parents one as well. We have had very little issues with it other than the very rare reboot (that takes less than two minutes). It's much faster than my smart TV, and makes switching between apps very easy. I 100% recommend this to someone who either wants a faster smart TV or wants to make their TV "smart."
