Ditch the Dish

We'd been using Dish for years and are glad we took a chance on this product. It's working great for us! There are so many streaming options and as a bonus-we are saving money.

Updating our roku!

This is a Christmas present for my husband. He set it up, used the ether wire, and all seems to be working as it should!! Some of the reviews said a few things stop working over time...we shall see. But so far he is very happy with it. Especially the voice command feature!

Really Good Price

I bought 2 of these as gifts, so they've not been used. At the time of purchase these were great buys. I think the recipients of these will be very happy!!

Professional

Love the Roku ultra steaming device. Makes any TV a smart TV. All my apps in one place. Easy to navigate. Highly recommend for a Christmas gift.

Better Streaming!

I've had this for a few weeks. I really like the new remote which has the ability to turn the tv on and off, as well as adjusting the volume and mute....but what I like the most is the enhanced picture. The streaming is great, and a big improvement from my older Roku.

HDMI CABLE

If your having problems it's probably because of an inferior HDMI cable. Because I had a long distance between my tv and WiFi router, I used a different cable. I had problems from the beginning, after doing some searches found the cable I was using was suited for Roku.

Excellent hard disk detection

I like Roku Ultra for its ability to detect and play videos in External Hard disk (ext HDD) via USB port. Most of the TVs will detect only ext HDD in MBR partition format (max 2TB and old format). But Roku Ultra can even detect ext HDD in both MBR and GPT partition format (>2TB, mostly used). I have lot of personal videos in a 4 TB GPT partition ext HDD and my TV does not recognize this ext HDD. Roku Ultra was able to detect this ext HDD and play the videos, photos seamlessly. In fact, Roku must promote this ext HDD USB detection feature which is present only in Roku Ultra (no other Roku models) more prominently. To my knowledge Roku Ultra is the only product in market which has the ext HDD play back capability for GPT partition external hard disk via USB port.

Hearing Aid Streamer Issue

I can't get my ROKU Ulta to allow my father to hear it through his hearing aid streamer; although the TV goes through his streamer. Certainly millions of hearing aid elderly folks want to watch and hear Amazon Prime & Netflix movies. How can this be fixed? Thank you.

No Dolby Vision, limited Atmos, no gigabit etherne

For an "Ultra" and highest model offered, this is far from what I'd consider the pinnacle of streaming. To begin, Dolby Vision is just flat out not supported on the Ultra, only HDR10. This is a pretty big oversight since even basic TV's are now supporting Dolby Vision, and can take advantage of the higher data rate it offers for a better HDR picture. The lack of Dolby Vision support means I may as well just use the built-in apps on my television, which I often do, and skip the Roku altogether. The second issue is the ethernet port is only a "fast" 10/100mpbs port and not a gigabit port. The biggest reason I wanted the Ultra was to get a hardwired ethernet connection, but unfortunately it cannot take advantage of my gigabit internet. In fact, the Roku's built-in WiFi (AC MiMo) is theoretically FASTER than the ethernet port on the Roku! This is another glaring oversight (or cost-cutting measure). My third complaint is minimal Atmos support. While some apps like Vudu or Disney+ will support Atmos titles, the granddaddy of streaming, Netflix, has Atmos locked out on the Roku. This is a massive disappointment to someone like me, who has spent $$$$ on a home theater Atmos setup. Roku's official stance is that it's Netflix's decision to not enable Atmos, whilst other devices like Apple TV get it; but is that ultimately true if it's an agreement for Roku to even carry Netflix? Roku does have some clout here and can campaign for it in negotiations...but they seem to not be listening or transparent about it. Overall I'm indifferent to Roku's top-tier streaming device. The menu and user interface do feel a lot more snappy than older Roku's, and apps launch must faster. But that seems to be the end of it. I am struggling to see why someone would buy this over the cheaper Streaming Stick+, which offers the same 4K HDR10 support, same WiFi AC (that's faster than the Ultra's ethernet port), and same voice control remote. For that reason, I can't recommend the Ultra, and would say get a Streaming Stick+.
