I havent owned a TV in over 3 yrs, so this is a big step up for me. I was apprehensive at first at what I would call a generic brand, Vizio. Ive really put this tv through some testing over the last 2 wks.
I have tested all inputs and outputs, the optical audio is the only thing i couldnt get to work but could have been my 2007 AV receiver. Wouldnt work with my brand new optical audio cable.
The colors are great, bright, and vibrant! And it has more adjustments to keep you busy.
The sound is average, it does get pretty loud on its on. Though i do get a small rattle inside the tv lower right corner when certain deep bass frequencies are played. though not to big of a deal since i dont usually have the tv turned that loud since i have a receiver hooked up. And it sounds great through my stereo, just ask my neighbors. lol This rattle has been mentioned in other reviews on the 50 and 55" vizio's. I personally dont find it a problem and Im picky about little things like that.
It has a nice built in video player for using a USB drive. Works fine with my kingston 16GB, it does get a little warm but no more than when using it with a PC. I read other reviews stating it wont work with anything bigger then 16GB but their is NO info about this in manuals(main one is built into the tv to view) Video on this part also looks great! HDMI ports all work and transfer audio fine. But with my PC hooked up to the HDMI their is no audio but this is a problem with my PC(no audio via HDMI). no big deal just had to run a 1/8 headphone jack to my receiver. My PC also looks, and sounds great through this tv! Plug and play no adjustments needed and runs @ 1080p just fine. Web sites look great, movies look great, even runs games at 1080p, tried Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2, played fine with no hiccups.
This is one of the few new tv that actually have RCA jack, which is also part of the component, RBG cables, which has to be adjusted with in the tv menu. Its pretty easy to find and change from Component to AV. When using the RCA jack(1 set) it looked like it should, through the RBG cables it was 100% better! Played my PS2 with the RBG component and it looked better then ever before! I was kinda shocked on how good it looked. Also played DVD's through the PS2 and they also look and sounds great!
Wifi works well too, though i hooked up a network cable to stability. This tv comes with a lot of "apps" built in so you can connect with facebook, youtube, hulu, yahoo just to name a few. I kinda liked the youtube it plays better on the tv then my pc's?! Nice to watch stuff on a huge screen.
So far the only CON i have found is while watching a movie via the USB drive, if i shut my laptop off, or even close the screen to put into sleep mode, it stops the player and goes back to the USB drives menu. which isnt to big of a deal unless you're an hour or two into a long the movie. then you have to go and fast forward it, which is a little slow IMO.
Overall i think its a great value and would recommend to anyone!
