Seemed to work ok, until Federal got Rejected

Filed taxes for dependents (children - one of which is in college). Then filed parents. Federal for parents got rejected by IRS because there was confusion about dependents. TurboTax should provide a way to tie together related filers, so that if a college student accidentally marks "not a dependent" and parent marks a dependent, they could be double checked before e-filing. Now I have to find a way to extend the parent filing until I can amend the dependent student's return fixing the checkbox.

Excellent. Would have liked a tax estimate for '18

Been using Turbo Tax for decades. The only thing I would have liked to see this year is a feature after filing taxes that would estimate next year's taxes based on all the changes coming. My deductions have been reduced, and I'm not 100% sure that they're withholding enough. But I can't find a good estimator for next year. I need it sooner rather than later in order to adjust withholding if necessary.

Easy and this was my first year

I had been paying HR Block HUNDREDS of dollars to do our taxes, and last year when I had to figure out what they goofed on for our state, and we had to pay HUNDREDS to the state, and we never even got a 'sorry' we decided not again. This was great, I was scared, but talking to friends they said it was easy to use, and it was. We would certainly use Turbo Premier again next year. this was fast, and pretty painless.

more confusing than usual this year

When checking my taxes, it said that I needed to change the name of a charity, but I donated to a dozen and could not figure out or "jump" to whichever one was the problem. First time taking medical deduction and found it difficult to determine where to enter the info for various types of claims/services. Would have been nice to see all the categories in one place rather than continually having to go back and correct things.

Useless Error Messages

When reviewing my returns, I got an error message that said (roughly): Must Enter Total Interest And that was all. It didn't identify the form, and when I went over the forms to find it, I couldn't. The other problem I encountered was in entering data from my K-1 forms. Your software was only minimally helpful. You need to improve it. Maybe next year I will try some other software.

Missing software linkage

Turbo Tax online version did not have functionality for exempting College Savings Plan distributions from the 10% penalty tax for not using the distribution for college expenses for those attending a military academy. Form 5329 reference. Had to use the desk top version. Please correct online version. Thanks

Refund this year!!!

I found it necessary to go online to the Turbotax site to find out how to enter expenses for volunteer activities at a nonprofit. It was a little difficult and unclear. Once I figured it out the rest was easy. Overall this is a good product and saved me a lot of money.

Watch for Errors

First year in many years of use that I ran into a bug that would not allow me to submit my taxes. Once the update took care of it, I read on the community page that I would have to reenter all of my medical details after deleting the medical form in the program. That worked but was a big extra effort. Then I discovered another bug if you select Optional Farm Method for the Self Employment tax calculation. It calculated at least one line wrong and caused a big SE tax to be rendered. By going back and using the regular long form, the problem disappeared. If I didn't know better, this would have gotten through and cost me around $1000 in my refund. There may be other problems that didn't affect me or I missed. Either way this is not acceptable.

Software

It took my wife and I several tries before we found the errors in STATE tax software side where the State id's where incorrectly entered, and when you have an out of State W2 box 15 is blank: Software will automatically enter state you live in rather then leaving it empty as instructed: Tried several times to leave blank: Software always kept state in which I filed state taxes in : Not good. Thanks

Nonogenerian Notes

Linking forms and step-by-step and IRS requirements can be improved. Backtracking from form line to be submitted to worksheets is a problem. I seem to remember split screens in earlier editions of TurboTax. My eyesight is getting poor. The changes in computer displays of text is getting to be a fog. Maybe you need to design a "handicapped " version.
