Natural gas fuel option

I bought this generator for power outages. I wanted a natural gas fuel option so I can keep the generator going without stopping to refuel. It took several cranks from the starter to get it going. I suspect the NG took a minute or so to get through the supplied hose. Once started it ran fine. I like that the unit came with oil and a funnel. Have not had to use it for an outage yet, but I'm confident it will do the job.

My second and I love them.

This is something I should have done a while back. That is buying a multi-fuel generator. I held off on getting a backup standalone generator, 1, because of price and 2, because I have 3 friends that have purchased them that has had nothing but problems. We've had a little smaller portable generator, 6500 watt all gasoline that works great, but when you are putting in about 14 gallons a day in it. That's almost 3 5 gallon gas cans a day, that's a lot of storage of gas. If it's a heavy ice storm, or snow fall, you better hope you can get to a gas station in the 5 days before the 15 gas cans we had were used up. We received the new generator last. Week and after unpacking it and making sure everything was right, we hooked it to a propane tank and it fired right up. We ran it on the propane tank for 4 hours with a load level that varied from about 28% to 46%. They say to keep it below 50%. The last 2 hours we ran it on natural gas to finish up the last 2 hours of break in time. We drained the oil and put in the specified synthetic oil. 3 days later we lost power for 35 hours. Well the area lost power for 35 hours. We were comfortable as could be.we had internet, Dish TV, and everything we needed. We didn't dry the washer or dryer at that time, but with a managed load I'm sure it could do it. This is our 3rd Champion product with one more on order. Our first is a power washer that we bought new in2016 and it is still going strong, so I'm very confident that we will stay comfortable in our next storm and the power goes out. By the way, we live in Tornado alley so we aren't strangers to severe weather. It is not very loud at all. Thank you Champion for quality products.

Great but with issue

The generator runs on house NG fine, but only runs with NG switch in NG CHOKE position. When I move it down to NG RUN, the engine runs rough, very rough, as if the choke was on. Moved the switch back to NG CHOKE, engine runs smooth. Tested with ethanol-free fuel, GAS CHOKE, started rough, moved down to GAS RUN, smooth engine. Pulled the airbox cover off to manually see the butterfly valve, Butterfly closed when in NG CHOKE, open when NG RUN, like it was designed. While running, the butterfly valve is closed and the engine runs smoothly but again when moving down to NG RUN, valve opens and engine is running real rough. I did an OPS check for 5 hrs, power whole house with NG in the NG CHOKE position and it worked fine. Trying to contact tech Support about the NG CHOKE/RUN issue. I will change my rating to a five if issue gets resolved by tech support.

We are very sorry to hear this. When using natural gas, the carburetor should not be used. There perhaps may not be enough NG flowing through the NG hose itself causing the unit to run rough. Please send us an email at support@cpeauto.com, so we can further assist you with this issue. Thank you for your patience.

Exactly what we needed

Thank goodness we haven't had to use it yet. Did fire it up with propane and very satisfied compared to the generator (1991 vintage) we used in the last power outage in December for 4 days. That generator needed to be filled up every 2 hours with gasoline. As a Toolmaker/Engineer I can appreciate on how well it appears to be made. We will be hooking it directly to a Natural Gas line as it is fairly cheap here in upstate NY.

Very pleased with the installation

Just installed the generator today and I am impressed with how easy it was to do. The only issue I had was taking time to understand the starting procedure for LP gas. Once I went through the process of turning the EZ start dial to choke, running the starter for a few seconds, then turning the dial to run it started flawlessly. We just need another big snow storm to give it a good test!

Easy-to-use

I bought because of being able to use Natural gas and regular gas. Easy to set up. I had a manual switch box installed for power outage. Hooks up in minutes and runs the whole house. (3100 square feet) Only 2 people but runs the furnace/Ac plus any outlets I need. Using Natural Gas means it will run all day. Used for 23 straight no worries. It's a little loud but used all 25 feet of hose and once inside don't really hear it.

Highly recommended Generator

The generator arrived in perfect condition and was easy to assemble and start. It is powerful enough to run all the essentials of a house with the use of a transfer switch that I had installed previous to purchasing it. It is fairly easy to move because of a nice leveraged handle and sturdy wheels. Bottom line is that I think this is a fantastic choice for this size category.

Off to a great start

Purchased this tri fuel 10000 starting watt/8000 continuous watt to run a domestic well pump and provide power to house during power outages. Started right up and ran great during testing for this purpose. Love the multitude of fuel options it provides.

All Good!

I am a brand new owner of this beautiful beast. This appears very well made and runs like a good piece of equipment. What I have found while having some self-inflicted problems is that the support is there for you and it was great, Adam by name. I am very satisfied and I think you will be too. Wonderful doing business with Champion! Time will tell the story of longevity.

This generator has delivered as promised

The assembly was simple and the instruction booklet was clear and easy to understand. Natural gas ready right out of the box. I've put our new generator through its break-in paces and feel confident that it will handle our next long term power outage with ease.
