Versitility

We decided on the trifuel for its versitility and mobility after having a main breaker switchover put in. Very easy to set up. Had it running in less than 30 minutes. Worked great first time on propane only (hint make sure your exhaust is not on grass - kills it), and are looking forward to trying natural gas, and gasoline, in the future when testing it out. Hope to never need it but every winter our power goes out for several days in a row and this will power most everything in our home at once.

I would buy this product again.

Delivered on time and easy to assemble. I purchased this generator to use in case the power goes out at home and so far I have run it exclusively on natural gas. So much easier than storing gasoline or propane tanks and I have an endless fuel supply. Instructions are easy to follow and generator started right up without issues. Had electrician install an interlock kit and generator inlet receptacle. Now I can simply plug the generator straight into the home with a 30-amp, 250-volt power cord (which I also purchased from Champion). The generator will power almost everything in my 2,700 square foot home that I would need in case of a prolonged power outage. It will not, however, run my central air conditioning. It simply does not put out enough power to run this. For this you would need to purchase a whole home generator. I live in a hurricane prone area and, like an insurance policy, hope I never have to use this generator, but If I need it, have piece of mind that this generator will run most essential items in my home with an unlimited supply of natural gas.

BE PREPARED BY AN OLD TIMER EAGLE SCOUT

I recently purchased a tri-fuel Champion generator to back-up my home in the event of a loss of utility power. Other than having to charge the included battery, it was super easy to start and operate on Natural Gas fuel. I hired an electrician to prepare my electrical panel to accept power from the generator. I am now ready to operate my entire home for days on NG fuel and Champion generated electrical power.

Good generator

I bought the tri-fuel generator to power multiple appliances in my home in case of a power outage. I really liked the fact that I could use natural gas to power it. I already had a gas line on the back of my house for an outdoor grill, so all I had to do was put in a T-connector and another shut off valve. I was disappointed that the quick connect hose for the natural gas had the quick connect to the generator and not the gas line. To me, it doesn't make sense to have the hose permanently attached to the gas line. It should have a quick connect at both ends. I will probably look to buy a quick connect in the future to make it easy to set up. Once I had the gas line all set and the generator connected, I decided to test it before I had a power failure and really needed it. After following all of the instructions for running on natural gas, I could not get the generator to start. I tried the suggestions on the Champion web site and watched some of their YouTube videos but still could not get it to start. I tried calling Champion's support line, but when I called the automated system told me that it could be up to 90 minutes before I would get through to a support technician. While I waited on hold I tried many different things to get the generator to start, but nothing seemed to help. I then started to take a good look at all of the wiring and discovered that a tube connecting to the carburetor was not actually attached. In order to reattach it, I had to remove the gas tank so that I could reach in to make the proper connection. Once I did that, the generator started right up. I did this while on hold with Champion for almost 50 minutes and never actually got through to a support technician. While it turned out to be a simple fix, it is a problem that I never should have encountered. I am just glad I was able to figure it out at a time when I was not in desperate need of the generator.

We are sorry to hear about this experience with one of our products but are happy you were eventually able to remedy the issue. The supplied natural gas hose is designed to be connected to your home's utility NG supply. Our call volume is currently higher than usual due to the recent snow storms that have left many people without power. We are doing our best to assist everyone in a timely manner. Please note that we can also be reached via live chat through our website or by email at support@cpeauto.com. Thank you very much for your patience.

Perfect for my needs

Wanted this for power backup, the flexibility of three fuel sources is invaluable. You never know what energy options will be available. Hoping to attach to my natural gas quick connect, but if that is not available (earthquake) i can devise another plan. Love it.

Been looking for a product like this!

So glad this product came out. I have been dependent on a gasoline generator for years during hurricanes and the deep freeze we had last year. The challenge is having enough fuel on hand to last the duration of the outage. Also, transferring gasoline to the generator presents its own hazards. I am having a quick disconnect installed on my NG line. This means I won't have to worry about running out of fuel and wot have to store 10's of gallons of gasoline in my garage.

Just what I was looking for

Haven't taken it to our vacation house yet to fire it up. Had a smaller generator and when I saw I could run on natural gas I was sold. No running to fill up gas cans so it had my name on it. Summer time isn't a power outage time but winter left us in the dark so I will be ready next time.

Excellent product

With all of the storms in the Sierras, we lose power frequently. My power was out 9 out of 14 days over Christmas. Bought a different brand that failed after only 4 hours. Returned it and ordered this one. Super versatile. Runs on 3 different fuels. At 8500 watts it will power my whole house. And, if I hook it up to natural gas....I could live without power forever! No more Christmas gatherings ruined.

I would recommend this unit based on fuel versatility.

This generator was purchased for use during a power outage primarily during extreme cold or hot weather and to stay online for work during the outage. Really wanted a generator that ran on propane or natural gas, so as to eliminate the hassle of storing gasoline and the maintenance associated with gas operation as a few day outage can use allot of gas. Followed the instruction and ran the unit on propane as a test run and was very pleased. The electric start cranked it right over and after a slight choke adjustment ran like a charm. Plan to make easy connection for natural gas. Highly recommend the Champion Tri-Fuel generator.

I would buy it again

I like the idea of multiple sources for fuel. I did the 5 hour break in with propane. I used 13.2 LBS of propane. This is with varying loads. So, under loads more constant. I may use 15 LBS for 5 hours. Which, I can now plan for. i used propane so I would have to deal with gas and running the system dry. The oil was pretty dark after 5 hours. I went with Mobil one 5w30 as the new oil. No issues with the items I had ran. It started quickly and was good to go. No oil leaks. Not hard to roll around either. Now, I sit back and know. If the power goes out. Within 5 minutes I will have power back up again.
