My grandaughter called it the magic can. Its sleek design fits anywhere without much space and it looks good. Got lots of compliments from family & friends. Only con is that it does constantly open every time you walk by because its next to a doorway. Also it doesn't stay open for very long as your putting in trash.

I bought my nine stars motion sensor trash can about 12 months ago. I'm still on the first set of batteries, and it works perfectly. One time, after changing out the bag, it wouldn't work, so I checked the "on/off" button in the rear of the can. Sure enough, when removing the top to change the bag, it had been bumped into the "off" position. First thing to check if yours doesn't work after changing out the garbage, is to check the rear switch. I am still on the original set of batteries and the can opens and closes every time I go into the bathroom because of the tight spot. No problem, it's still working after a year. If you don't want the garbage bag to show, just tuck it back over the rim so it is inside the can. This is a beautiful product that works well to keep odors in and opens automatically. I love it, and I highly recommend it.

I purchased this product on-line based on the great reviews. I put the required batteries in and it didn't work. I purchased new batteries thinking mine might have been old, but it still did not work with the new batteries. So I returned it to Walmart for a full refund and am sticking with my very low-tech waste basket.

We liked this product ar first, although you do have to get close to the lid for it to recognize motion. However, after 6 months of use, the lid only half opens. Tried changing batteries and resetting unit but nothing works. I've attemped to call the product's customer service and got ahold of them once (she told me about the reset feature), but have called 5 times since and it continues to ring or say "leave a message." I've left 2 messages without a call back. Very disappointed.

So, am I strange to think it's pretty ridiculous that the average price for a garbage can is $100? And, that's entry level pricing. I guess I'm just old. With that being said, the quality of this is fine. It's not too heavy yet it's sturdy. It keeps odors contained. It accommodates a decent amount of garbage. The design allows it to be placed near a wall, or cabinet, and the lid opens and doesn't scrape the wall. I've noticed that design flaw in several cans where the lid covers the perimeter of the can. I've owned it less than a couple months and usually empty it every couple days and have never noticed an odor. The one complaint is the sensor simply isn't consistent. However, it does work 80% of the time. I've noticed when it doesn't work, it seems to happen after a long period (overnight) of inactivity. Once I open it manually by simply lifting the easy access top, it's fine. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I have been comparison shopping garbage cans with the auto open for a few months (because I can't get over how much garbage cans cost) and this one seemed to be priced competitively and the reviews were very good. I do recommend it and would purchase it again.

My husband was very unsure about my purchasing an automatic opening trash can but he loves it. I found him finding stuff to in it when we first put it together. It works wonderfully and when my hands are full all I do is put it over the sensor and it opens immediately!!! Price was right!

Avoid this piece of garbage. The motion detection is pretty dodgy, so it MAY or MAY NOT open while you're standing there, holding two handfuls of wet garbage. It will, however, open every single time you walk anywhere near it. It will close on your plate as you're trying to scrape it off. It will chew through batteries. It is poorly designed and constructed. The lid doesn't really fit on top very well, and the battery box like to pop open, dumping your batteries into the trash.

We bought this trash can right after we remodeled our kitchen 5 years ago. It's nice looking and works well; the batteries don't have to be replaced very often; it's easy to keep clean on the outside. It has just recently begun to malfunction, but it is 5 years old. We are going to order another one b/c we like it so much.
