Cooking grate is too heavy

I bought the grill at my local Sam's Club a few days ago. It was fairly easy to assemble, it took about an hour. My complaint with the grill is the cooking grate. It is too heavy to lift into position when the coals are ready. It need handles or lifters. On of the grate's supports bent down when I had to drop one side of the grate into place as the grill was so hot. I would prefer a lighter weight grate with handles. Still trying to decide whether to return the grill for a refund.

Messed up out of the box.

I bought this grill because of the cast iron grate but the grill has areas of missing paint which I'm sure will rust, one of the grate holder tabs was bent flat on opening, a bolt was also missing for the ash bucket handle, and a leg spot weld has a crack in it. Tomorrow I'll season the grill for 3 hours and attempt to cook on it. Not real hopeful.

A long review but please read.

I have had this grill for a while before I decided to post a review. I honestly was not expecting much considering how less expensive this grill is as compared to a Weber. After several months I will say that I will be hard pressed to use any other grill other than this one. The only knock that I have is that I have bent the tabs that the grate sets on because I have had some difficulty putting it on gently with the grill hot and with the grate being cast iron. I was able to easily bend them back but I can imagine that if I did that too many times it would break them off. So that is my word of caution. Now the upside of the heavy cast iron grate is that it cooks wonderfully. I may end up reinforcing the tabs to make them a bit stronger. I load this grill down completely full and am still able to maintain temps in the 350-400 range if I wanted. This grill does a really good job of temperature control with the vent on the bottom and top. I have been really impressed with that. After a dozen or so uses it is holding up very well. From time to time I use a plastic scraper to get off all the grease along the bowl and that is really the only maintenance that I have to do. Assembly of the grill was easy as it took me about an hour to put it together. Take your time with assembly and make sure that you get everything snug but not over-tightened. This is a prudent practice with whatever you are assembling not just a grill. I HIGHLY recommend reading the manual that comes with it. It gives good pointers about how not to let coals rest along the side (which would cause premature rusting) and a few other tips to keep it in good working order. Also make sure that you season the grate per the manual. Overall a great buy and when I wear this one out I will be getting another. If you are like me I was skeptical because of some of the bad reviews but I promise you it performs well above its price point. Some of the bad reviews are from people that quite simply do not know what they are doing is all that I can figure out. There are a ton of accessories that you can buy for kettle grills. I have recently purchased a tool holder that sets on the side so that I can hang my utensils. There are also some charcoal baskets that work very well for indirect cooking. I also recommend buying the chimney fire starters for your wood or charcoal. The last few times that I have used my grill I have used strictly wood instead of charcoal and this grill performs very well with just the wood. That transition has allowed me even more temperature control and I am able to get that good smokey flavor without having to use a traditional smoker. I implore you to buy the grill, google the accessories that you would like and that would benefit you and your needs and enjoy a wonderful grill at an amazing price. BUY THE GRILL ALREADY!!!

Wish I could give it zero stars

I bought the grill a month and a half ago. Did anyone at Sams club's office grill on this before deciding to sell it?? The damper on the bottom does not sweep away ash, so the only way to clean it is to wipe out the bottom with your hand. The grate is super heavy (actually why I bought it) but the supports for the heavy grate are awful. 3 low gauge metal tabs. I've bent them down 3 times now so I'm sure they're about to snap off. Why do they bend? Because the grate is a full inch smaller in diameter than the grill. It doesn't fit, so all that weight easily bends the support tabs. The temp damper on the top is subpar at best too and gets really hot while the grill is running, but at the same time doesn't flow enough air so the grill starts going out due to lack of air when the top is on. I honestly wonder if any of the 5 star reviews came from people who have used the grill more than 2 or 3 times. I know it was a $100 grill, I wasn't expecting a weber kettle. But I was expecting it to last a couple summers and not be difficult to use. I'd be surprised if the support tabs make it to the third month...

22.5" Kettle Grill -- Cooking Grate Broke

Have used this three times and now I notice that the cooking great grate is cracked half way through the center. I assume the heating and cooling made the cast iron break. Although I've looked at other grills, this one seems steady and strong. I also agree with other review's that the tabs holding on the grate are thin and may not last to long. The lid seals fairly well has a little smoke coming from around it when cooking.

Damaged right out of box

I purchased this grill from the store. When I got it to the destination to put together and opened the box, the lid is damaged. I don't have time to take it back as we are planning on using it today, so I guess I will have to keep it. Disappointed
