It would have been nice if it worked when I needed it most

I purchased the Generac 7500E model generator approx 18 months ago from Costco. The deal that I got on it made it a no-brainer to buy there. After getting it home and out of the box, set up was a breeze. I simply put in the oil that came with it (we'll get back to this) and fueled it up, it ran like a champ. Every 4-6 weeks I start it up and let it run. I don't keep much if any gas in it while it is stored as I make it a habit to run it out of gas. This past week Mid-Michigan got pummeled by an ice storm that left us without power from Sunday 12/22/2013 at 3:03 AM until Wednesday 12/25/2013 at approx 3:30 PM. No problem right, I have a generator. I got up threw the breaker box to off, went through my start up procedure in the freezing cold of the night and had my house running with power again in approx 20 minutes time. After everything was back in order, I went back to bed and laid there listening to the generator. After it had been running for about an hour I heard it turn off. I went to check on it only to find that it would not start. I was full of gas and had been running just fine. The electric start had the engine wanting to fire, but it would not turn over. I got it into an authorized dealer the next day, Monday. It was not ready for pick up until Friday 12/27/2013. The diagnosis, it was overfilled with oil. Now, as I said, I set this up with the oil that was provided by Generac. As I remember it, a premeasured amount. I have never added to the oil. My only guess is that when my unit was tested at the factory, the oil was never completely drained. The time I needed it most and it had run the longest, less than one hour, IT FAILED.

Very pleased!

This is a powerful unit that will meet our needs during an outage. For us, it will power the heat strips on the furnace, our water pump, the refrigerator, microwave and enough lights to see our way through. We are very happy with our purchase and as we always say...we hope we never have to use it!

GP7500E

Just unpacked my new GP7500E. Easy setup to get running. Powered a few items just to test the generator. Will be easy enough for my wife to use before I can get home. Only disappointment was that there wasn't the extra cord included (twist lock to 3 plugs) but not a deal breaker.

Great Portable Generator

A portable yet powerful generator that is well suited for home backup power needs. Wheels and collapsable handle make it easy to manuver. Electric start makes it a snap to fire up. Enough output to protect freezers and fridgerators. 240VAC has enough output to power a well pump.

Standby capacity in a portable unit

We purchased this unit as a whole house generator for those extended outage periods, usually 1-2 per year. Since we do not use gas (propane or LNG), we did not want to install a standby unit on a concrete pad and find a place to hide a couple large tanks. At about half the price including a transfer switch, this unit will power our entire house and we can still store it in the garage or bring it to a family members house in emergency. Keeping 15-20 gallons of extra fuel on hand if stations are out might be a challenge, but for the rare occasions that happens, we'll manage just fine.

Lets see how this is handled...

Bottom of box and pallet was taped to pallet. I signed off, delivery driver drove off. 3 hours later, at 6:30 pm I took off the tape to see that somewhere in the process the tape was used to cover up a number of big holes and the powder coated frame was scraped up in 5 places. The battery tray flange was bent. Forklift damage I assume. I'm asking retailer to contact Generac and get me touch up paint to avoid rust... and a return.... I'm in the process of breaking it in. Lets see how Generac handles this, and I'll report back. Somebody tried to cover up a mistake, and it does not reflect well on the brand.

Generac 7500e

Overall I really like this unit. The electric start is great because I have my eldery parents & my sister living w/me and this makes this unit simple to operate. As for the generator runs wonderful & is about as loud as any other portable unit. My 2 complaints would be that the wheels are really cheap & the fit & finish on my unit were not the best in my opion . Also I have a generac cord and a 30 amp generac receptacle gen box as well which I love. Overall 4.8 stars!

GP 8000

I owned a Generac 5500 for 15 years so I decided to buy a new, larger one. Great product Except for the Electrical Cord that was included in the carton. It is a cord for contractors to use on a job site. If it were used as a cord for home use, one would have to snake it through the door and attach 3 additional cords to it to operate 3 devices. MY HOME is wired to accept my Generac through my main service panel. Now I have no acceptable cord.

Hurricane Auxiliary Power

I bought a GP8000e 3 years ago but didn't need to use it until now. I turned this generator on Wednesday night after hurricane Ian had passed. It's been running for 5 days straight. I do change the oil every day, not sure if that's necessary. It's been running the lights, two air conditioners, tv, refrigerator… I've even used the washing machine.

Don't they test these things before shipping them?

The generator arrived pretty quick after ordered. I followed the instructions of getting it set up (adding oil, gas, hooking up battery, etc). The generator would not start with the electric start button. I verified the battery was fully charged. It would start manually with the pull cord. I contacted Generac and the closest service facility was 45 minutes away. I dropped it off the day before New Years. I did not receive it back until January 30th. Part of the issue was they could not get the control panel off without damaging the decal that labelled the switches and outlets as it covered the screws. They had to replace the solenoid and repair a wire. They made that repair relatively quick and offered to give it back with the damaged decal. I told them that after spending $1100 for it I would prefer to not have to look at a damaged decal every time I have to use it. The service facility was nice enough to deal with, but they kept the generator outside for awhile. When I got it back it was filthy. In closing, my experience could have been better. But the unit works fine. This could all have been avoided if it was tested before shipping. I also want to note that I bought this because it was made in the US.
