Bought the Brendan Sail Shade Pergola over a month ago, and we could not be happier with it. Product arrived in a timely fashion and well-packaged. Instructions were clear and straight forward—no guess work needed. It has helped transformed our back deck into a space we can use all day long now. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to add shade with a structure that looks good and is easy to assemble.

We desperately needed to add shade to our backyard ahead of what we expect will be a very hot summer. I opted for the shade sail pergola instead of a full pergola because I want to be able to remove the shade sail in the winter to get as much sun as possible. Bonus - it's cheaper and quite simple to put together! The actual structure was - dare I say - easy to put together with two people. I did the parts inventory, reviewed directions, and would collect the necessary tools and fasteners for each step of the project, then hand over to my husband to assemble. Rinse and repeat. The only challenges we had were related to our non-traditional choice of installation method (using deck foot anchors from DecksGo - I suppose outing myself might void the warranty but it was the best choice for us). It just required us to make a few adjustments on the fly. We haven't been able to use it yet as it rained for 3 days since we installed, but very much looking forward to it. We will eventually build out a more proper patio but this allowed us to get it in the ground and then we can do the rest of the work under the shade. Highly recommend this as an affordable and easy solution to adding shade.

This pergola completely transformed my outdoor space. My back deck was looking so sad until I decided to purchase this Brendan Sail Shade Pergola. It's exactly what I needed for my backyard space and it was super easy for 2 people to put together. Not only did it beautify my space but it also keeps the hot sun off me and my furniture so I can actually enjoy being outdoors!

Love it, I had to request parts, no issues getting them. They send them out quickly.

We love our shade pergola as it helps keep it cooler on our back deck. The shade is comfortable and effective. It's wonderful!

Love this pergola! Nice clean lines, easy install, and communication with the company is awesome. Highly recommend this product and company.

This sail shade was exactly what we needed for our new deck. It is the perfect size and provides the necessary shade to make our patio usable during the summer months. It was easy to assemble and even provides locations to hang lights, very nice touch! Overall, we are so happy with Backyard Discovery and their products.

Purchased a few months back, and it is very nice, looks great, and relatively easy to erect. I am a very handy guy and it took me about 6 hours to setup and anchor into a concrete patio. However, I have some extreme doubts that this could hold up to 100mph straight-line winds with the sunsail attached to the frame. Mine has been though a few semi-severe thunderstorms with winds in the 55-65mph range with the sail on, and one severe storm with 85-90mph winds with the sail taken down and the frame is cracking/splitting on nearly all of the posts and beams (reflected in attached pictures). That being said, it is very easy to take the sail down in a hurry - about 60-90 seconds if you are familiar with how the straps work. Putting it back up takes about 5 minutes, so it is rather easy to be proactive about its exposure to high winds and severe weather (if you are home when the storm hits).

I bought this when it was on sale for 699 with free delivery. It's nice, but I just don't know it's worth the price. It is exactly as described though, so if it sounds good to you then go for it! It was much easier to put together than the instructions made it seem - 90% of all holes are predrilled FYI. Good quality, holds up fine to FL panhandle weather (April through June so far, so tons of rain and wind). I will say, if you're more of a handy/DIY person than me, you can probably make your own kit for cheaper. However if you don't want to deal with the hassle of planning, buying, and prep, then this is a great option! Sturdy, professional appearance, and great price in comparison to other options from REPUTABLE brands (don't even bother with those super cheap, no name brands - there's a reason they're so cheap). All this to say - it's not a scam, not crap quality, and the brand's direct customer support is top notch (even at midnight lol)

It's a little more expensive than a standard pop-up canopy, so time will tell how well it holds up long-term. My main issue is with the tarp cover. It's supposed to be removed when it rains, which will make this a chore many days of the spring and summer months. Even light rain can cause it to sag in the middle. The cover is fairly quick to take off, but putting it back on is frustrating. The straps do not have much slack, so you have to pull very hard to get them through the buckles. You also have to be careful not to tighten one side too much too early, because that takes away slack from the remaining straps. Assembly was also made harder by how hot the metal hardware gets. The bolts, nuts, brackets, and other metal pieces became extremely hot to the touch with even a little warm sunshine (like 75f and partially sunny), so you have to be careful during assembly and when taking the tarp on or off. I had other metal tools and hardware outside and they did not get hot so it is some type of chemical or fusion that must be part of their custom hardware that gets hot just from being warm outside. Many parts were just as hot but they were enclosed in a box in the shade. I would have preferred a rolling or retractable top cover instead of a removable tarp. That said, once it is up, the shade is decent and definitely better than a pergola with only wood slats providing partial shade.
