Poor box - good shelves

I purchased two of these shelves to put in our garage. Our garage had no shelving, so everything was pretty much scattered on the floor, leaving no room for my car. I was a little leery about buying these because other reviewers had mentioned that their shelves had arrived in disarray. However, since the price of these shelves beat out similar units online and in big box stores by at least $30 per unit, I decided to try it out. They arrived quickly after my purchase, but as other had mentioned - the boxes were pretty much torn apart. Fortunately once I inspected all the pieces they seemed to be in decent shape (some of the wooden shelves were scratched up, but since it was for my garage, I wasn't too concerned). They were pretty easy to put together. I was able to put most of it together on my own, but did require a second pair of hands to connect the bottom connection to the top connection. I liked them so much, I ordered a third box so I can have some extra storage room. Be careful when opening (what left of) the boxes - the metal can be pointy in spots - also the box is very heavy, it is best if two people move it. (This is why they charge you the $5 for shipping, even though it should technically be free - it was totally worth getting it delivered though!). So, overall, if you can get over the boxes being torn up when they arrive, the shelves so their job in the garage and totally worth the price.

NOT HEAVY DUTY

These units are not heavy duty! They work well for general storage but the boards are two weak to fill with boxes of books or other heavy items. You can not fill a shelf with 16 oz. cans stacked 2 high without the shelf sagging dangerously in the middle. Sliding heavy items off the front of the shelf can pull the shelf support out enough for the shelf to droop inside the support.

shelf unit

The structure of the shelf unit is very good. Strong and easy to assemble. But the packaging is very poor. There is no protection for the product and as a result all the particle board shelves had damaged corners. I plan to use it in my garage and will probably be replacing them with plywood so I didn't return it.

Very Good Shelving

Easy to put together. Very Good shelf for this particular need. You will have to consider purchasing new wood shelving as the shelves that come with it will not withstand heavy loads for long periods of time. Also do not get the shelving wet. All in all, though; a great product.

Terrible

The side support beams come in two pieces. One of the shelves must be used to join the two pieces together. The problem is that it is impossible to get the thin metal of the beams to line up perfectly and the top beam basically just balances on the bottom beam. Really poor design. If you can get the top to stay in place, it is flimsy and feels like it will collapse at any moment. Don't waste your money.

Avoid this!!

Do not buy this!!! First of all the shelves are flimsy particle board that have chips along the edges right out of the box. Secondly, they do not provide the couplers you need to fully assemble the shelf. You can buy them- for another $15- but they are out of stock so even that is not an option. We wasted some time on our weekend trying to see if we could assemble it some other way, then I looked deeper into the reviews and saw more people who also had the same problem. Only purchase this is you want to waste your time. Now I need to pack this thing up and figure out how to return it. Avoid this terrible product! I tried to do zero stars but they wouldnt let me submit my review that way.

Best value of youth receive an undamaged set.

I purchased the two set bundle for in-store pickup and luckily received perfect sets. You can't beat the price for the amount of square feet in storage you get. I priced out building wooden shelves, but these were cheaper, adjustable, and portable just in case we move. They assembled easily and are sturdy enough for my needs (Costco water, 9' Christmas tree box, and other Costco stuff). I prefer plywood over the particle board it comes with, but I received a good set so hopefully they last long.

Love this product!

This is the third unit I've bought and love them. They are very sturdy and totally worth the price. I'm a retired woman but had no problem putting them together, especially since no tools are required. Wish I had more room in our garage for another one!

Will work for our needs but probably not for all

Packaging not adequate for shipping. Some pieces came in damaged but usable. The whole assembly is cheaply made, very light duty and structurally questionable for any considerable weight. Doesn't stay together very well, especially when trying to move the shelf into final place. The price was right but you definitely get what you pay for. I would not recommend this product to anyone else. Spend a few bucks more on a better shelf.

Pleasantly surprised, greatly disappointed.

I just received my Muscle Rack shelving after waiting almost 2 weeks. We purchased 5 sets of shelving, two were the 6' x 4' x 24". The design and engineering were excellent. Giving multiple shelf height adjustments. The packing of the shelf parts was excellent also. But to my shock and great disappointment was that particle board shelves were made of 3/8" thick material. How do you get a 4,000 pound rating using 3/8" particle board, no way possible. The only way is testing on the steel frame only for weight certification. I just reviewed the web site for specifications and found only the mention of particleboard shelving. No mention that it's only 3/8" thick. The shelf is surrounded by a 1/2" lip of steel. But the shelf is depending on the strength of the 3/8" thick particle board shelf with no interior shelf support.. To design and build such a quality product, then go real cheap on the shelf material. The very least would be to disclose that shelf thickness in the ad. The company buys the shelf material at a great discount as opposed to us home owners, seniors. Charge a few dollars more and provide a quality shelf to go with the quality steel frame unit. Now were having to figure the cost of replacing the 3/8" particleboard with 5/8"
