Adequate for the Price

I just received these and was able to assemble alone with little problem. The shelves are stable enough empty. We will see how they do once loaded. I would classify this shelving as middle of the road. The steel supports are lighter gauge than I had anticipated. The rivets holding the braces and beams do not seem to fit tightly enough even when seated with a rubber mallet. As I was trying to reposition the shelf unit after assembly I had to be careful not to lift at the shelf otherwise the braces would come loose. The unit is 72" high, but is actual two 36" standards that are held by the center brace and beam. I'm sure this was done to reduce shipping cost but poorly designed as there is no overlap, they just butt together and are held by one rivet on bottom post and one on top post. Again stable empty, but a weak point once loaded. The shelf material is 3/8" unfinished particle board. They are supported around all sides, but with a 24" by 48" size, I will need to be careful about placing anything with weight near the center. I can imagine I will need to take each shelf out and flip it over from time to time to eliminate bowing. This would not be as critical on a 18" wide shelf. All in all a good looking shelf unit. Probably will work well for lighter weight material. Price was competitive.

Assembly is Maddening!

Once it was together it seems to be sturdy and stable and will be great storage for our garage. But for all those reviews who said it was "easy" to assemble, they must be crazy. It took 2 of us to put the thing together AND the instructions were less than helpful. If you're having difficulty putting this together look at some of the pictures others have posted of the up close shelves, that should help.

Perfect for Organizing and Storing!

This product is good quality, sturdy (though I am not a fan of the "stack the metal posts" concept for the "legs" of the stand). The only difficulty I had putting it together by myself was getting the legs posts stacked and the braces in place without the legs slipping from the stacked position. Once together I was (and am) completely happy with the end product. And the price was excellent! I would definitely recommend for organization/storage purposes.

Nice Product.

I am happy and pleased with this steel shelf. I bought 4 of them and it was exactly how I wanted them to be. It is sturdy and looks good. It is easy to assemble, except at the joint where you might need to use a little hammering. It is a plus to know that it is Made in the USA.

Hard Earned Money Wasted

I needed to wait 24 hours before I wrote this review, one because I was so angry and two because my hand was still numb from the stitches. The box came damaged along with two shelves(cheap particle board), the one sheet instructions offered no help in affixing the post joint(youtubed a video and found one where even a tall burly man fought to put this thing together), so as my 5 foot self feverishly attempted to hold the posts and side supports together enough to get it"tapped" into place, I wasn't prepared to keep all hands and fingers away from the posts that have a repeated tendency to slide out of the rivets and, in my case, cut my hand open. Once the neighbor heard my trucker-like cursing rant and came to assist, even he had a rather difficult time not taking a hammer to the entire project. Truthfully, I doubt this will hold the few boxes and misc items that I need it to for a long period of time. The posts are nowhere near thick and stable and the thin flimsy boards might last six months before they bow . Truthfully Edsal should be ashamed of this product and for taking peoples hard earned money. Spend the extra $40 and go to Lowes-the frames and thick steel and have joint supports.

NO REPONSE

I ordered two of these shelving units. One came with a wrong size BRACE. On February 23, 2015 I used Edsal's email contact for customer service. To date March3, 2015, I have not received any response. I've tried their customer service telephone number, several times, good luck contacting them by phone. Because all the parts of the shelving unit interlock to stabilize the shelving unit. I'm reluctant to use the one unit for fear it will collapse without the BRACE that it is missing. So, as of today I have a shelving unit I'm unable to utilize because the manufacturer EDSAL has not responded to my attempts to contact them. There are other manufacturer's who offer similar shelving units and should I have a need for other shelves, I will probably try another manufacturer other than EDSAL.

Great for the garage

I shopped around for garage shelves and they can be very expensive. I bought these based on reviews and was not disappointed. If I had the opportunity I would have given them 4 1/2 stars, as they aren't perfect. While I was able to put them together by myself it was a bit difficult, but they system to put them together is great, no tools needed. The only other drawback, and small for me, is that the corners are exposed, I would not recommend these for inside where you are worried about the floor or walls, they would have been perfect if there was some type of tip you could have put on them so the metal wasn't exposed on the top/bottom. But for my use they were perfect.

Damaged and missing part

Package was damaged upon arrival. Corners of wooden shelves damaged. Instructions were wadded up and torn. Cardboard packaging inside box to protect parts during shipping was also wadded up and torn. Missing one of the couplers so not able to assemble full shelving unit. Disappointed.

Damaged in shipping

The shelf is great, big, best size for value. However, two of the shelves were chipped in shipping. The box arrived damaged. It weighs 100 lbs that's why I had it delivered. I have no way of returning it easily. I made the decision to just use it. I put one chipped shelf on the very top and one on the bottom. It's not bad but was disappointing.
