Heavy Duty shelving unit

I have to say, this was A LOT bigger than we had imagined and had to do some rearranging to find a place for it. It was a "bear" to put together, though. tried to do it alone and for the most part, the instructions are fairly easy to follow, BUT because of the size of the thing, it is virtually impossible to complete one side before the opposite side moves, or in my case, falls back down before it can be attached. THIS is because, unlike most shelving units where the four side bars are ONE piece, these come as TWO pieces (8 all together). The two pieces are NOT joined together... not by a clam, screw, brace or anything. You must balance the upper vertical bar's end, atop the end of the lower bar (no bracket to hold it in place), while simultaneously trying to attach it to the units shelving bracket's horizontal bar. This was the cause for much frustration and a few skinned knuckles and cuss words ! Once the 4 (8) side posts were up and attached to the horizontal bars, putting the shelves themselves (heavy pressed wood, about ½" thickness) was very easy. Each shelf holds about 150 lbs weight. Because the shelves are deep (24") we have been able to store items like picnic coolers with no overhang. We have stored heavy cases of water and soda with no sag at all of the shelves. We were unaware that one case of soda (one of those big cubes) had several cans that had sprung a leak. Upon finding the leaks (a week or so later), while the wood was wet... it did not sag or deteriorate and dried beautifully in a day or two. If we had the room, we would gladly purchase another one (or two)... but these really are HUGE units... and well worth the price... though I wouldn't try to attempt putting one together by yourself without some great frustrations!

Shelves

Once the shelving unit is completely assembled it is sturdy. While assembling it can be a little funky and the corners of the wooden shelf tend to flake apart. Although the shelf is still usable. I suggest you don't drop a small but very heavy object on the shelf. By doing so it cold crack or break the shelf.

Major design flaws can't reccomend

I ordered 4 of these for our basement we just remodeled and finished to turn into living space for storing kids toys and misc boxes. I read glowing reviews all around the net on these units and bought them with the utmost confidence that they would work for what I needed them for. I unboxed them and the packaging has minor chips in the plywood but nothing major so I set them up and built the base unit and it seemed stable enough I was very pleased with the exception of this unit does not come with plastic protectors for the bottom so it's extremely likely I scratched up the new ceramic tile down there and it will get more scratched up as time goes on. The next drawback was a MAJOR one the way the top half of the shelf connects to the bottom is in no way shape or form safe or stable. You basically use a shelf to bring the top and bottom part together and it's just held together by nothing at all but just sitting there resting on the other one. I re-read the instructions multiple times and still assembled the unit just because it's a pita to get back up the stairs and take back to the store... The ones I bought from a major hardware retailer were the same size but included better boards, plastic protectors for the feet, and the way it attached the top and bottom was safe and secure. To feel comfortable I had to rough it up and use a liquid weld product to feel safe putting anything on the top half...

Adequate for the Price

I just received these and was able to assemble alone with little problem. The shelves are stable enough empty. We will see how they do once loaded. I would classify this shelving as middle of the road. The steel supports are lighter gauge than I had anticipated. The rivets holding the braces and beams do not seem to fit tightly enough even when seated with a rubber mallet. As I was trying to reposition the shelf unit after assembly I had to be careful not to lift at the shelf otherwise the braces would come loose. The unit is 72" high, but is actual two 36" standards that are held by the center brace and beam. I'm sure this was done to reduce shipping cost but poorly designed as there is no overlap, they just butt together and are held by one rivet on bottom post and one on top post. Again stable empty, but a weak point once loaded. The shelf material is 3/8" unfinished particle board. They are supported around all sides, but with a 24" by 48" size, I will need to be careful about placing anything with weight near the center. I can imagine I will need to take each shelf out and flip it over from time to time to eliminate bowing. This would not be as critical on a 18" wide shelf. All in all a good looking shelf unit. Probably will work well for lighter weight material. Price was competitive.

Damaged and missing part

Package was damaged upon arrival. Corners of wooden shelves damaged. Instructions were wadded up and torn. Cardboard packaging inside box to protect parts during shipping was also wadded up and torn. Missing one of the couplers so not able to assemble full shelving unit. Disappointed.

This Shelf is not Stable.

So I bought two of these for my store. They shipped in very heavy packages (100 lbs each). I started to assemble the shelves. The shelves come with 8 posts so that you can build the shelves up to the 72" it says it is. However, when you try to assemble the two posts on each corner togther, it is very unstable and extremely hard to assemble. It's so unstable that even a little shift or a push on the shelf could topple the top half. That being said, I decided to make two shelves out of each shelving unit. They were very stable and easy to assemble. So if you are planning on buying a shelf that is 72" tall, I would purchase a better shelf. You get what you pay for with this shelf.

Does anyone have a phone number or some other form of communications for the sellers of this? Mine was missing the brackets (as ive seen this happens to a lot of people) so id like to contact them so i can get those shipped to me. Overall, the quality is what i would expect for the price paid. Seems sturdy enough for some totes

Bought 3 units. Great shelves!

Bought 3 units to organize my basement storage. They are great! Love them. Very sturdy. The only problem I had and why I didn't give it 5 stars, is that on one unit, the holes did not line up. It's a good thing my husband is handy and was able to fix that problem. So better care by the manufacturer should be taken to fix this problem. I do see in the reviews that this has happened to other buyers. The 2 units without problems took my husband about 1/2 hour to put together. The other with the problems of the holes not lining up took him about an hour to put together. Would definitely buy again!

Perfect for Organizing and Storing!

This product is good quality, sturdy (though I am not a fan of the "stack the metal posts" concept for the "legs" of the stand). The only difficulty I had putting it together by myself was getting the legs posts stacked and the braces in place without the legs slipping from the stacked position. Once together I was (and am) completely happy with the end product. And the price was excellent! I would definitely recommend for organization/storage purposes.

Sturdy Shelves

These shelves are sturdy. They were a bit challenging to put together where the tops connected to the bottoms, but were ultimately ok. The boxes I received had a hole in each one due to the weight of the contents. One box was missing two pieces, but I phoned the number provided and two replacement pieces were sent immediately with no questions asked. The shelves assembled easily enough and are now ready for storage.
