First off, I want to point out that this box weighs just over 100 pounds so if you can't lift that much you will either need to meet the delivery person at the door and have them bring it inside for you (which my FedEx delivery person did) or invest in a dolly or have someone help you.
I was concerned upon arrival because the box was damaged. When I opened the box there was particle board "dust" lining the opening. I pulled all the pieces from the box and laid them out for inspection. The shelf boards seemed to be fine. I really was surprised there was no binding, no styro foam inserts and nothing was shrink or stretch wrapped. That being said, nothing seemed to be damaged.
I began putting the pieces together as per the instructions. Setup is pretty simple. I am only 5'2" but had no problem assembling everything without any tools.
I will point out that this unit does not come with rubber pads/caps (for the bottom corners of the metal that sits on the floor) so if you are concerned about scuffing your floor should you need to move the unit, I would consider purchasing furniture coasters or adding your own heavy duty lockable casters somehow. This unit is heavy enough on its own so imagine having it full of goods and needing to move it for some reason... that could be a problem for you later so take the time during assembly to outfit the bottom of the unit accordingly. Also, this may seem stupid to have to say but, if you need to move the unit (and it isn't sitting on wheels or coasters), don't lift it by the shelves because they will slide right up out of their holes just as easy as they slide in. So, when moving the unit, grip it by the vertical rails.
For the price, this really is a decent unit. You may need to make some additional purchases to make this unit more functional for your needs. It will certainly work well for what I need it for (storing canned and dry foods) and if I have problems with the particle board later (which is inevitable because it's particle board) I'm ok with just outfitting the shelves with plywood.
I have seen other reviews here about damage during shipping etc even before I made my purchase and I decided it was worth a shot. I can certainly see how their units could have been damaged upon arrival. The more the box changes hands, the more chance there will be for damage to occur because it is very poorly boxed considering the weight inside. If you have a problem, the insert directs you to contact the manufacturer and not the store where you made your purchase.
I don't like to give a review so early because I haven't had time to "life test" the product but I felt that others should know before buying that it has its quirks. It seems sturdy though as I sort of "hung" on the support bars to test it's weight tolerance and they didn't give (I weigh 250 pounds). It may seem flimsy during assembly but once all the supports and shelves are in place it will be pretty solid.
