Picture is great, remote functionality is terrible

We got this TV just over a month ago to replace a model from a different brand that was knocked out by lightning. The picture was great and everything worked well for a week or so with the various devices connected to it, but then we started having issues with the remote control. We found a help article on the web site and went through all the recommended troubleshooting steps including hard power cycling the TV, resetting the remote, and even resetting the TV to factory default with no luck. We contacted support who told us the remote was bad so they sent us another one. While we waited for the delivery, we downloaded the remote control app to our phones so we could use the TV. That worked well. When the new remote got here, all was good but the old remote started working again too. Everything was fine with both remotes for a day or so but then they got flaky again and the only way to consistently use the TV was through the mobile app. For a few weeks we went through the process of resetting the TV and/or remotes, sometimes multiple times in a day. Those steps didn't always work either. What was consistent is that all functions on both remotes worked or they didn't, but the mobile app always worked (goes through wifi rather than the IR port). Functionality was so random we could pick up the remote, turn the TV on, change the channel or input device and 5 minutes later nothing. Then it got to a point where we couldn't get either remote to function at all no matter what troubleshooting steps(adding soft power cycle, disabling HDMI-CEC and unplugging all input devices except antenna to the list of things we tried) and the mobile app failed us a couple of times as well. So we called support a second time, explained everything that had been going on and they sent another remote out. It seems like they don't have an option to look at the TV itself when the remotes don't work. I'll be calling them back again in hopes of having the unit looked at or see about returning it. If the issue gets resolved I'll update the review but right now the user experience is pretty poor.

Could be great, if it worked...

The TV has a solid picture with decent enough color depth and response time, but ongoing issues with audio quality and completely some completely non-functional features prevent the TV from being an acceptable offering, even at a budget price. Video (5/5) The picture quality is fantastic for the price point, especially when compared to other TVs in the price range. A little time spent calibrating the display and enabling the gaming mode brought the image quality and responsiveness into the realm of devices nearly twice the price (note: the input delay prior to enabling the gaming mode was one of the worst I have experienced, but that was an easy fix). Some light bleed can be spotted, especially on flat neutral backgrounds, think a solid grey screen. This issue is common in all sets at this price point and markedly less than many of the comparable TVs. OS (1/5) We were unable to correctly set the date/time for the TV. When connected via WiFi or ethernet, the auto-detect feature set the TV to Jan 8, 2020 with a time offset of 1 hour and 54 minutes. Attempting to manually set the time lets you select the timezone, but not actually correct the time or date. Most included Apps work fine, but the built in YouTube and YouTube TV apps loaded a generic "Page could not be displayed" error. The overall menu structure was functional, but not as user friendly or snappy as comparable TV models. Audio (1/5) Audio through the TV is hit or miss, audio from the included Netflix app works great, but casting to the TV via the built in cast feature or attached Chromecast Ultra produces loud popping noises and appears to alternate losing the right or left audio channels randomly. Connecting any external device produced complete cut-out every time audio was started. These cut-outs would last 1-5 seconds and only occurred when audio resumed after a quiet period (think every pause during speaking). This was tested on a PS4/Pro, XBox S/X, PC Audio and Chromecast Ultra. Multiple brands of HDMI cables were tested and each attached device was tested on a nearby TCL TV, which had did not produce the same issues. We attempted a factory reset and checked for updates via the system menu - these steps failed to resolve the issue. Given the seemingly numerous and so far unresolvable issues, I cannot recommend the TV, especially when other, similarly priced options, are available.

Overall a great TV

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The new updated allows for easier access to all apps and eases searching too. Great quality picture and sounds. Only downside is that the remote sensor is offset to the bottom right and the remote has to be aimed exactly there. I think centering would have been better.

Second week, it has been a good tv since purchased

First smart tv. Bought this 2 weeks ago. It's super light, so easy to carry it anywhere. I had a fire tv stick before buying it. For the first few days, the tv remote was working as the fire tv remote also. Then it stopped working as a fire tv remote. I bought this tv as they were offering 3 year warranty. So I guess am good for at least 3 years. Touch wood. The built quality seems nice. The video quality is good. The sound is also doing alright though it does not give that woofer effect. But it's a good one given the price. Till now it's behaving better than the 50 inch Hisense.

My best TV purchase!

I bought this TV 3 weeks ago. 70' was a bit of a challenge to hang myself. Great setup program to get things started and we've had no issues. Great picture quality and sound. Ample input options for all the accessories you could want. Great purchase for us!

Great TV, with some flaws

Picture and sound are really good for the price. My only issues are the quality of the remote, and the glitchy software. Batteries drain fast on the remote. TV software; apps periodically won't start, tv will randomly shut off or will take a long time to boot up. I've done the updates and have done factory resets. The layout of everything is a bit convoluted too. With all that said, it's still a great tv and I'm glad I made the purchase.

Easy access to multiple platforms

2nd purchase of this tv. Unfortunately the sound screen didn't work properly after 6 months of viewing. Just an odd defect they say. I have a new one with a "product guaranty" which I purchased. Fingers crossed. But over all, love the pic and the apps.

Great TV for the price.

This is my second VIZIO. I bought a 55" two years ago and its still has amazing picture quality. So when it came time to buy a new tv for my bedroom it wasn't a question on brand. Vizio in my opinion has the best app software, and picture quality for the price.

Awesome TV

Replaced older smaller non smart TV, wall mount transferred over was hooked up in less than 5 minutes, setup walks you though and worst part was about a 10 minute firmware update loop, Apple cast is great, works flawless and our existing Visio sound bar/sub linked right up. Picture is amazing especially 4K media

Great TV, Better Price

I've had this TV a few weeks now. The picture is better than I expected for the price. Works with Dolby Vision and regular HDR. The Alexa connectivity is nice. I use a Shield TV, so I don't use the built-in apps much, but the menus are responsive and easy to navigate.
