use caution

The channel selection is much better than expected but suddenly I'm getting hit with fees I didn't expect, with no explanation. I'm not happy.

Easy to use, great features & value, One BT issue

I bought this when I wanted to upgrade from my ISP-provided streaming device. I had used Roku and another brand previously, and decided on Roku this time because I knew it was easy to use, stable (without nagging issues), and was a good value. I was not disappointed except in one area: you cannot have one person listening via bluetooth earbuds and have the other folks in the room listen via normal sound. We had previously relied on this method on another device so my hearing-impaired husband could turn up his volume and the rest of us wouldn't be blown out of the room. I never thought it wouldn't be available on Roku. We ended up hard-wiring an amplifier connection from the TV to wired earbuds for him. Old-school but it works.

Love me some Roku

I'm very glad that I chose Roku as the technology to stream to our televisions when we cancelled cable (about nine years ago.) The only gripe I have is that with some amount if frequency, the remote the remote has a delay when sending the signal to the box. That is really annoying.

My ROKU would stop working every time you changed the channel. I switched out the HDMI cable (because that was the context of the error message). Same thing. Power cycled the fiber modem and router. Same thing. Checked to make sure the computer worked in the TV HDMI port and it worked as normal. Power cycled the ROKU device. Same thing. Called tech support and let the tech know what I had already done. He had me repeat a couple of the things I had already done. He sent me a new one and I received it promptly. Very satisfied. Great tech support.

No significant improvement, poor support

Bought this to replace a 4800X since it's supposedly faster. I don't see a measurable difference. Some apps seem to take longer to load. I also opened a case since it won't receive Dolby Atmos when the 4800 does. Over an hour online with chat which was a joke since initial contact had me check for updates and restart. Then elevated to tier 2 and asked me the same stuff all over again and give them a screenshot of the issue ID. Told it's being elevated to the "back end engineering team" who would contact me within 24 hours with an update. Received an email with the chat transcript: "We're following up to let you know we've got an update. To respond, reply to this email." which I did and no contact for over 48 hours. ; "We're following up to let you know we've got an update. To respond, reply to this email" which I did and apparently this is false. It's been over 48hours and no response.

Sound control

I have a Yamaha Surround Sound home theater amplifier with approx. 20 different genre choices. The Roku won't let me select anything but "standard" mode so, I am not using all the speakers available in my set=up. There has to be a way to solve this problem but I have not found it. There is not a manual and I have not found one on=line. Still, there are nice features and I will probably get another one for another TV.

Does exactly what I was wanting it to.

The apps on this unit perform better than the same apps on my TV. Using a HDMI splitter, I can watch them same stream on two TVs. It allows me to pair two remotes. one for each TV. I can move between the TVs and watch the same content. Previously had to launch the same app on both TVs and pausing on one did nothing on the other. Also now only using one login account instead of two in my previous setup.

Upgraded to new version

We had an older model of the Roku Ultra for many years. At some point it stopped switching to the proper input on it's own without intervention from the TV remote to switch inputs. It also seemed to move slower and "get stuck" more frequently. An upgrade to this current model resolved those issues. It was unfortunate to have to repurchase the same product to get the same level of functionality we used to have, but for convenience sake, it felt worth while to us. Hope this one isn't as "disposable" as the previous version.
