[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a nice gazebo down by our dock, where all the neighbors would get together. Then we were hit with hurricane Ian. During the 150 MPH winds and 12 foot storm surge we lost our gazebo. We searched high and low for a replacement. After one of our trips to Sam's we saw this pergola. We decided that this was just what we could use. We ordered it and hoped it would be as nice and better than what we had. Our neighbors, with my husband and I put it up within 2 days. WOW it was awesome. We sent out the invites says that DOCKTAILS are on!!!! It was so great getting back to some normalcy after Ian. Everyone though it was really beautiful. Looking forward to many evenings with our friends and neighbors just having some cocktails, some food and conversation. Many people go by on their boats and remark how nice it looks. I just smile and says thanks.

Our home is always changing--inside & out; & every change creates a new "pop":. This time we added a room!! It all started after switching out the last section of old board decking to brick, matching the rest of the existing bricked deck--improving both the look & function of our yard. But, looking out at the expanse of this all brick deck, even with colorful furniture & our usual riot of plants, something was missing. Somehow, we needed to frame that section, a place where we entertain and also shelter a lot of plants. (I'm a gardener). It's Florida; summer sun is merciless on human skin and, more importantly, all of our plants shriveling in our summer heat; they can't hop up and escape into the AC. What we needed was a pretty shelter from direct sun; we needed a pergola! And this baby is a champ. Ordering was easy, the perfect size for our spot, delivery on time; my husband Bill added 2 applications of weather coating, we hired the brick guys to assemble it (we are old :-)). And now we have more than a pergola; it is a ROOM-- partly nestled under our old magnolia, decorated by our happy shaded plants, and furnished by our colorful furniture (I am a painter), the pergola frames it all and creates the perfect space whose form is lovely and which functions to give us what we needed: a solid, sturdy, shade-providing structure. We already have subprojects planned: our copper pelican perches on the top corner; to add even more shade, we are installing lattice panels over the widely spaced roof slats, and we are adding electric outlets for some good old Florida fans, also hanging solar lights to line the top structure. That's for starters. You never know what might come next! It never ends. Thank you, Backyard Discovery!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After our fiasco with Amazon and promising to deliver our pergalo. We were exhausted fighting with Amazon’s trucking firm. A month had almost gone by and we finally got our money back, I called Backyard Discovery direct and within a few days as promised we got our Pergalo and simply love it! Thank you for working with us!

I am a 50 year old woman and I was able to put this up myself. I had my 20 year old daughter help me with lifting the assembled pieces to the top of the pergola while I attached them. All the parts were included and I had no problems with hardware or alignment. It was very easy to assemble because I planned ahead, had the right tools and patience. I assembled it in 8 hours on day 1, I anchored it to the concrete on day 2.

I will update this post later with pictures of the finished assembly, but I want to start my review now by saying what a responsive company they are. I had questions about the pergola we bought, and the people who responded were awesome. They answered my quedstions both quickly and thoroughly. I started by unboxing everything in the garage, and then sorting adn counting everything. It was all there, and it all looked great. Then, as the instructions suggest, I used a water sealer on every piece to protect the wood. We still have some assembly work to complete, but then I will update this review with photos and final thoughts. So far, though, it's going very well.

I had my pergola erected last Saturday, and it's just beautiful. I love it. I've gotten a lot of comments on it already. If you follow the directions closely, install the BILT app, and watch the video, it really does go up easily. It took a contractor with two helpers 4.5 hours to put it up, and they said there were no problems.

Overall the pergola is very nice and instructions were clear. Unfortunately the instructions for how long the base is were wrong. All the concrete was laid out exactly to their plan of 114" on center, but when assembled the posts were just over 115" on center. I recommend building all of the long pieces FIRST, then calculate how far apart the posts will be. I am a woodworker and teach engineering. Normally you would cut everything to size as you are building because there can be some changes in wood or other things. So for a pre-made, pre-drilled pergola it's understandable that some holes don't line up, kind of annoying the post distance wasn't correct as they will not be centered on my columns. One thing to add, all of the pieces are short and use a lap joint and bolts to secure them. Cedar is a soft wood, so I glued all of the lap joints and bolted them. Because all of the pieces are bolted together I would not trust standing or putting anything heavy on top. From a learning experience, I recommend building all of the long parts in sections and then sealing them before assembly. Overall it is a fairly good product. The only reason I did not build this from scratch is because the price of lumber to make something similar would have been as much or more than the kit. Had I known all of the long pieces were bolted lap joints and the 6x6 columns are hollow I may have just held out and designed and built my own.

This will be the second summer we have used this pergola. I am still pleased with it. I followed others advice and treated the wood with spar urethane before assembly. It would be easier to assemble with a couple adults. However, I was able to put it up with a little help from my 11 year old daughter. When the Oklahoma heat ramps up, I put a shade cloth over it to provide more shade. Over all I am very pleased with the pergola.

I bought this in spring 2024 and my husband and I installed it in February of this year. We had a concrete slab poured and attached the metal plates to it after building the pergola. This past weekend we had an EF-1 tornado come through our property, winds were estimated at 110 mph, this pergola is still standing and unscathed!!! We had 30 foot trees uprooted and thrown to the ground. We are very impressed with the quality and build of this structure, 100% recommend!!!

I bought this pergola direct from Backyard Discoveries and the pergola itself is fantastic. Fairly easy to assemble, my 19 yo daughter did most of it. I read a lot of the reviews that said the holes did not line up or that the hardware was junk. I did not find that to be the case at all. In fact I don't think you can build this for the price you get it for here. The hardware is not stainless, however it is powder coated and I did not have any problem stripping anything. It is very adequate and not cheap. The wood itself is Chinese ceder, It's not western red but for the price point It was fairly straight, and any minor twists are easily worked out as you build. I pre stained the wood with Olympic stain and seal #716. It was almost a perfect match. The pergola assembled looks fantastic!! My reason for only 4 stars is the use of YRC freight to ship this product. I know this is not directly related to the pergola or Backyard Discovery but please find a better company to work with. They were awful. They never called to let me know our appointment was not gonna happen and I lost a day of work. The shipment arrive 10 days later than our original appointment.
