Comfortable but Handling Suffers

I have a 2011 Honda Accord EX-L. It came with the Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires. 50K mile tire, I got 62K from them (tires had 3-5 mm left). They made my Accord feel like a sports car. I loved them, but I drive about 40K miles per year over no so great rural TX roads in the course of doing my job, so I thought maybe I should get something designed for longer life and improved comfort. Thus, I replaced my Pilots with the Premier A/S tires. These tires certainly are very quiet and comfortable, but they are a little scary in the handling department. Keep in mind where I came from, but the tire definitely has some stability issues if you have to make a quick evasive move around an object in the road. I thought I was going to end up in a ditch doing something I had done many times with the Pilot tires (South TX roads are full of retreads and other debris from Mexican trucks). Overall I'm happy with the quiet comfort, but I'm considering returning them based on the cornering and other handling characteristics. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it feels like my car doesn't accelerate as well either. I think the Pilots grabbed the road faster and didn't give as much, so the car moved when I said go. It's probably not a fair comparison, but I thought the review might be helpful for those considering a similar transition. You are giving up more handling in the compromise than you might expect.

Best Tires Around

I have used Michelin tires for many, many years and can think of NOTHING bad to say about them. The Michelin Premier A/S tires I purchased yesterday replaced a set of tires that came on the vehicle when it was purchased. When I drove off with the new tires, I couldn't believe I had waited so long to change them. The new Michelin tires, as usual, were so nice it was as if I was almost floating on a cloud with the tires touching the road. Handling superb, road noise non-existent, ride smooth as a cloud...I LOVE Michelin Tires...and for safety they can't be beat. This is a real review from a 70 yr. old Grannie who has always loved to drive...especially with Michelins!!!! My ratings for "wear" cover all the Michelins I've had thru the years. Other ratings are only for the Premier A/S.

Michelin Premier A/S 215/55R1794V

I bought a brand new 2013 Lexus ES300h and it came with a set of 4 Michelin tires. This set of tires were worn out at about 30,000 miles so I went to my favorite local owned tire dealer and they sold me the Michelin Premier A/S 215/55R17 94V because my car requires a "V" rating set of tires even though the dealer recommended the "H" rating tires. I religiously rotate my set of tires every 5,000 miles. Right now I have been driving 23,000 miles and the tires are already worn out with little tread left. I will need a new set of tires before the winter comes.

On west coast, we have to be careful where you buy them

I have driven on Michlin's for 45 years. I talked my buddy into getting a set of LTXs for his 3/4 ton truck. He found a GREAT deal in Oregon and they worked GREAT in the Utah mountains pulling trailer in snow, etc. 35,000 miles later they were smooth. I had trouble talking him into getting another setbut he did only this time he got them from a Utah dealer that buys from a mid-western distributer. 60,000 miles later they are still doing great and have over half tread. A few years ago I read an article about imported name brand itemsflooding the west coast. My feeling is some of the unhappy Michlin buyers may have encountered so "knockoffs". Just a guess.

Fine performance, poor longevity!

I bought four Premier A/S tires on 3-21-2017. They only lasted 27,814 miles before needing replacement (2/32" fronts, 3/32" rears). I always check inflation and had them rotated once at 10,944 elapsed miles. Although I like the ride and wet weather performance of these tires, I am not pleased with the longevity. I achieved less than 50% of the warranty mileage. I also have this type of tire on another car I own. Same longevity issues. Definitely not a 60,000 tire!

Uses tread fast

I bought these and only got 45,000 miles out of them. One tire is down to 2/32 and the others 3/32. It's rainy season and I don't feel comfortable driving on them anymore, so I'm buying some new tires. I really wanted to get some Michelin Premier A/S again, but unsure if I should do so since they are EXTREMELY expensive for the mileage you get out of them. I always have the tires rotated and balanced, so that's why I'm so disappointed with how long they last. I know it was close, but the Continentals that came with the car got 53k miles, and looked a little better than my current Michelins at 45k miles. I may be able to squeeze another 2k miles out of them, but my family's safety isn't worth risky for those extra miles. I think at minimum for the amount you spend on these you should easily get 50k miles out of them without worry about the safety of driving on them to get your money out of them. Michelin rates these at 60k miles, but I'm 15k miles away from that. I'm torn on buying these again, because they handled awesome in the rain. I will say these handled MUCH better than the Continental ProContacts and Pirelli P7's we used in the past, but the miles you get out of them is just disappointing. The tread is about 8.5/32, which isn't much.

Premier AS 92H on 2013 Subaru Legacy

Can't say enough good things about this tire, living in Southern California. Put them on My Legacy with 86k in August of 2017, now I'm at 140k in October 2020 looking at replacement tires (but still have a little ways to go, just getting a jump on it) and will have no reservations about putting these on again. I've had 0 issues with them except for a nail I picked up which was repaired. I've only had to check a tire low low pressure once outside of the nail incident. These tires are rock solid, don't hesitate.

AWESOME GRIPPING TIRES

The Tires I was looking for were Reviewed VERY carefully as tires, brakes and windshield wipers are my main Safety concerns for my Vehicles. I wanted to make sure I picked the best All Season Tire that Grips Wonderful on dry, wet, and even on the Ice and Snow, Atleast what little we get in Alabama. This Tires are extremely quiet and Ride comfortably that I now have to keep looking to see how fast Im going, The corner Wonderful with very little Body Roll. I have ALWAYS ordered Good year tires But said next time I would try Michelin and so far they have not failed me or my Traction light hasnt come on. I do drive my Elantra Coupe hard with 180HP and these tires do the job. Highly Highly Recommend these tires to anyone.

New level of luxury performance

Former owner of Primacy MXV4 for five premium, mid and full sized sedans. When pre-ordering new set for 2015 luxury sedan, discovered Premier A/S had replaced the Primacy MXV4. Have discovered the tire is more quiet than and as comfortable in an 18 in. 'V' fitment as the former was in 16 in. 'H' size. Its firm, confident grip, wet or dry far exceeds my aggressive handling courage and what was possible on the MXV4's. An outstanding tire and wise buying decision that I highly recommend for the maximum enjoyment of owners of premium and luxury, touring cars.

Terrific Tires!!

These are the best tires I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of tires. Don't completely believe the negative reviews. Tire service life is based on several factors; keeping proper inflation, periodic rotations and balancing, driving habits, etc. Just purchased my second pair of these. I got 63,000 miles out of my first pair and probably could have safely driven a little longer. Best all around tire for the money and manufactured in the USA. Thanks Michelin!!
