Comfortable but Handling Suffers

I have a 2011 Honda Accord EX-L. It came with the Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires. 50K mile tire, I got 62K from them (tires had 3-5 mm left). They made my Accord feel like a sports car. I loved them, but I drive about 40K miles per year over no so great rural TX roads in the course of doing my job, so I thought maybe I should get something designed for longer life and improved comfort. Thus, I replaced my Pilots with the Premier A/S tires. These tires certainly are very quiet and comfortable, but they are a little scary in the handling department. Keep in mind where I came from, but the tire definitely has some stability issues if you have to make a quick evasive move around an object in the road. I thought I was going to end up in a ditch doing something I had done many times with the Pilot tires (South TX roads are full of retreads and other debris from Mexican trucks). Overall I'm happy with the quiet comfort, but I'm considering returning them based on the cornering and other handling characteristics. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it feels like my car doesn't accelerate as well either. I think the Pilots grabbed the road faster and didn't give as much, so the car moved when I said go. It's probably not a fair comparison, but I thought the review might be helpful for those considering a similar transition. You are giving up more handling in the compromise than you might expect.

Disappointed with tread depth

I have been selling the Michelin line-up for many years with very few problems. The new Premier A/S season has great technology, good price and ratings, however, thread depth is not visually appealing at 8.5/32". Customers browse at our tire display and the first thing most customers do is stick their finger in the tread, and they find that the other tires on display have deeper thread. "Safe when worn, looks worn when new"

Simply the best

Four new Premier A/S tires on my 2008 Civic Ex sedan and it handles like the two Acuras I used to own. Incredibly responsive cornering, quick stops/strats, quiet, and great gas mileage. Traction is wet conditions is excellent, as is driving on ice and snow (better than most all season tires). If they are anything like previous Michelins I have owned, they will last at least 50k miles, probably longer. The tire salesman tried to talk me out of “performance tires” for this car (recommended slightly less expensive Michelin Defenders, which I’m sure are good and probably a little “softer” on bad roads), but I am so glad I spent a few extra dollars to get these. Driving is fun again!

Very poor tread life.

I bought these tires 19,773 miles ago. I got a rejection sticker today because my 2 front tires need replacement! I drive my car less than 7,000 miles per year! I go to the grocery store and back! I'm beside myself because I can't afford new tires!

Did not expect that from Michelin

I installed new michelins on a lincoln town car a few years ago. I left the car parked without using it for about a year. when i started driving it again, I noticed all four tires had weather cracks in them. they were so deep that i was forced to replace the tires. I have had cars for more than 50 years. I cannot remmber ever having tires crack that bad in such a short time. ( I only had them a couple of years prior to letting the car stand idle ) NEVER!!! l I will not buy michelins because of that.

My First Michelin Disappointment

I have a 2012 Camry XLE that came with Michelin MXV4. I replaced the MXV4s with Premier A/S tires. The first thing I notice was road noise was much louder than the worn out MXV4s. The next thing I noticed was I could feel every imperfection in the road surface. At 750 miles I had the tires removed from the Camry and replaced with another premium brand. This was hard to do since I've been a Michelin fan since the 80s. Had the Premier A/S tires road as good and quiet as the worn out MXV4s I would have kept them on the car.

High road noise

Unhappy with the Premier brand. I get a lot of road noise from these tires and my understanding was that they were a better tire than the Energy brand. I've only had them for about 1 month and I certainly wouldn't buy them again. My last set was Energy and the last 2 sets on my wife's van was Energy.

Never Compromise, ice & snow heat & rain

We purchased some A/S tires for my wife's 2008 Camry in 2016. The tires were rated for 60,000. Immediately I could tell the quality difference between the Michelin's and other brands I had purchased in the past. They grip the road like a glove, and with a newborn at the time I promised myself never to compromise again. We live in Minnesota, and I can tell you that in the ice and snow these tires perform like a no other. I recently had to replace the tires and again went with Michelin. We got 70,190 miles out of the last set, and if winter was not here, we could have pushed them even further. I know this is the last set of tires I am going to have to purchase for this vehicle, but it they will not be the last Michelins I ever buy. Living in a severe climate region like Minnesota means never compromise. These tires will spoil you from beginning to end and all roads in between. Anyone dogging the quality of Michelins should take a look at their vehicle and tire care. Align, inflate, and rotate and you will get every penny out of these treads.

Premier A/S

I have had Premier on a 2011 Saab 9 3 and got 71,000 miles on first set and put same tire on as replacement. Put them on my 2014 BMW X1 and have 40,000 miles on them. Will be needing to replace shortly. Have been very satisfied with these tires as far as handling in all weather conditions.

RAPID TREAD WEAR!

Got a set of these tires for our Subaru Forrester 2 1/2 years ago, rode under 37,000 miles with them, and today Subaru service agents are saying they need replacing with treads at 3/32 for two of them, 4/32 for one and 2/32 for the fourth!! How do you get 60,000 miles out of these disappointing Michelin tires? We like Michelin, but now considering other makes. Maybe Michelin is no longer the company it used to be?
