Generac 6500

I had previously owned a Generac 6500 and needed another unit due to the worst ice storm to hit in decades. I found a unit 3 hours away. It was worth the trip. I cut open the box, added the oil, handle and wheels. Put gas in the tank, and it fired up on the first pull. Quality I knew I could trust. It was worth the trip to bypass the lesser known brands.

Awesome

This has saved my bacon 4 or 5 times. I almost wish for a storm to come now because I'm prepared. I hadn't used it for a year and I ran it yesterday as a test and it started up right away. It kinda scared twice though. The first time I ran it it burned almost a quart of oil. And then once I filled it up with gas and I hadn't turned the fuel shut off valve to off and somehow the some of the gasoline went into the crankshaft. They don't tell you that in the manual. And now the manual says paper air filter but mine is foam. But ,I still love it and chain it up when not in use.

Quality Product

I bought the XT8000 series with EFI but it wasn't on the list to submit a review. The unit was delivered in a timely matter with no damage. It was easy to put together and fired right up after adding fuel and oil. I've only run it a couple times for an hour with a oil change each time just to break it in. It runs great and is quieter than my neighbors that is half the size.I'm sure I'll be completely satisfied when it actually comes time to use it. I would recommend this product.

Easy to use, powerful generator!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a powerful generator! It is very durable and a medium size, so you can move it around if needed. Easy to use and hook up to your appliances. There is some noise but half of the noise of my neighbors generator. This is a must buy!

Great power output; too heavy to carry around for camping.

This 8Kw machine was purchased to replace a Coleman 4Kw machine because, like many users, we initially underestimated our power needs. A sparsely used cabin in the woods, off the grid, but enjoyable getaway doesn't warrant air conditioning or television, but a water pump and a hot water heater alone quickly outstripped the 4Kw output of the previous generator. We had to choose between 1)pumping/heating water and 2) lights, computer, power tool, or battery chargers. It was a tolerable choice for a couple of years, but purchase of a KillAWatt device quickly demonstrated the actual consumption of power we were using at the cabin. The 8Kw output now affords us the luxury of hot water and lighting simultaneously, so we are now considering an upgrade to a small refrigerator. The Generac product line is seen all over the north woods up here in upstate New York, often as standby generators, but a few portables as well. This one is very heavy, and is not liftable to put into the vehicle to take to another site for a hunting trip or other event, so it needs to stay put. After using it for two weeks, a few bolts and nuts had vibrated apart and were sitting on the ground, so it prompted us to go around the entire unit, tightening all accessible bolts, nuts, screws, etc. The loose ones were limited to the frame and housing area. The motor/generator components were well manufactured, and we were reluctant to over-tighten any mechanical systems. Hooking the machine up to our house was straight-forward, because we had already set up the previous system with an electrician. The larger capacity Generac did require a 240 volt / 30 amp connector plug to upgrade the milder plug used by the previous generator. Also unforeseen is the simple fact that an 8Kw generator can use twice as much gas as a 4Kw generator. We're not saying the Generac is less efficient, but having the power available whets the appetite of the user. We are still re-thinking our power needs daily because of the reality of gas prices. 24 hours of full-out use will cost $15 per day, but miserly use can cost only $5 per day. The choice is up to the appetite of the user. What's the difference? Running the water pump and water heater all day and all night pulls a lot of watts. Replacing incandescent light bulbs with efficient LED bulbs makes a small but noticeable difference. Chilly nights sometimes tempt one to plug in the electric heater, but power costs money. It's better to use extra blankets if you have them. It is comforting having the power when you really need it, and this machine has it if you want it. Given the cost of fuel over the course of the summer, and looking to the future of several summers ahead, we plan to supplement our electrical generator with solar and wind to manage the cost and reduce the carbon foot print.

everything I hoped for

the 7500e arrived on time and within an hour it was setup and tested. it starts immediately and purrs like a kitten. when we did a load test we were happily surprised. the watt meters showed that we could comfortably operate our home with power to spare. the value we derived from this purchase will give us years of electrical security. thanks Generac for a product well done1

Thus far all is well with the generator

This is my third season with this generator and thus far it has worked as it should. I don't have any experience with other generators and brands so I cannot tell how this specific model is relative to the others but thus far, it has not let me down. Some observations though. 1. The battery is on a trickle charger and this keeps the battery fully charged. This is a good thing because it takes a great deal of effort, at least for me, to use the manual start. 2. This one is a gripe. The manual states that old fuel should not be kept in the fuel tank. I get it. However there is no easy way to drain the fuel! I use a hand pump to remove the old fuel at the end of each season. Generac could have easily added a de fueling valve to its gas tank.

Was a lifesaver when needed.

A derecho came through our city on August 10, 2020. Severely damaging the power grid to the city. I purchased a RS8000E the following day. I needed the unit to run a refrigerator and freezer, but more importantly my mothers oxygen generator. We were without power for eight days. The only issue I had was with the user manual no specifying that flipping the 30 amp circuit breaker need to be turned on to activate the two 120V outlets. I figured it out and had no issues with the generator. The generator definitely paid for itself. I would recommended this unit to anyone.

Up & Running in Minutes

I bought this generator after researching online. Brand name carries a lot of weight in the generator field so I decided on a Generac and was not disappointed. Had the generator out of the box, set up, break in oil added and running in less than 30 minutes. One week after I brought it home we had the seasons first snowfall and the electricity went out. Hadn't had time to get the electrician to do the hookup to my service panel yet so I ran a drop cord in from outside and plugged in the TV. Watched television until the lights came back on in about an hour. Worked flawlessly and can't wait to see how it works running through the service panel. I would definitely recommend this product.

This unit has everything I need to keep the essentials of my home running during an outage!!!

This has been a great unit right out of the box. Easy to assemble, simple easy to read starting and usage instructions, portable and enough power to maintain my home in a safe and functional state during a power outage. Easy electric start for my wife if I am away on business. Great generator, bought 2 more for my children's homes.
