Best value

Best value for price. Easy assembly. Started right up. Ran my pool pump, kegerator, deep well cooler, 1 window ac unit, 1 in wall ac unit with ease. It didn't even strain. Refrigerator and house lights are on solar, battery backup system. I did not try running central ac, stove, although it probably would if other loads were shut off. Connected my oscilloscope while under load. Voltage and frequency right on. Very clean pattern. More than happy with power output, quality.

Got it for hurricanes... doesn't work

Bought generator 2 years ago which worked on startup. I drained the gas tank and confidently awaited a time for its use. I am in NC with Hurricane Florence and brought out the generator. After filling the gas tank, checking the oil, charging the battery..... nothing. Will not crank by hand or battery. What a disappointment when it is needed most.

Plastic and cotter pins.

So far seems like a good generator. That said there is more plastic than on my older 5000 (ie choke lever). One definite disappointment is the really cheap and flimsy old fashioned cotter pins used to hold the wheels on. Why not use a self retaining hex as on the handle and feet or at least a heavier slide on style retainer clip????

At least the rope start is easy, the battery didn't last 3 months.

The GP8000E is a very capable machine. It can run our whole house and never falter. The electric start was a requirement so my wife could crank it up. There is the first weak spot. The machine is just 4 months old and has 3.2 hours on it and the start battery has cracked and is leaking. Yes, I recommend the unit, but I recommend that you plan to replace the starting battery very early. The 20amp cord that comes with some is of marginal utility, I suggest that you look a 14-30 cord if you chose to do much at all.

Good machine. CO sensor and GFCI to sensitive

GFCI trips when I plug in my refrigerator. CO sensor keeps shutting down my unit that is placed outside not even close to my home. I had to put a box fan under the handle to blow air across the unit to keep it running. I dont need the CO shutdown. Other than those 2 items I am impressed.

High quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am extremely pleased with this Generac generator. My husband and I had no problems whatsoever setting this up. It’s actually not as loud as I suspected it would be, maybe about the same noise as a lawnmower. We were able to hook quite a bit with this (refrigerator, few lights, microwave, etc.) This will definitely come in handy this winter as we’re in Western New York and get some pretty harsh weather and are constantly having the power out for long periods of time. Definitely a good investment and this generator is high quality and highly recommended!

xt8500 efi is a very nice generator for the price

I'm a controls engineer who was very fussy about what kind of power that is going to my house. i know what kind of damage could happen if you get power spikes, power surge and transient voltage. all kind of the same thing. when testing what kind of power that came off of it seemed great. 60hz and 240volt RMS. I had zero problem with it. i do charge the battery every 90 days give or take. my only complaint that i have with it is i wanted a spine on oil filter. Generac said it had one, it's a fine screen not quit what i wanted. but it was already delivered so i keep it. One thing i would get for your house with any generator is a whole house surge protector.

Great Generator To Have After The Storm

We recently purchased the Generac GP6500 and couldn’t be more pleased with this product. This generator had its fair share of use after the recent damage caused by hurricane Florence in the coastal region of Eastern North Carolina. The GP6500 generator was easy to assemble and started up on the first pull out of the box. The generator ran continually throughout the daytime hours for a solid week after the hurricane had passed through our area knocking out power to our subdivision. We had NO issues or complications with our Generac GP6500 while we were waiting to have our power restored. Also, we noticed that the full burn of the generator seemed to be more efficient than expected. This was a major relief to us since all gas stations in our area were closed due to lack of available refueling trucks as well as there was no electricity to operate the gas pumps at the stations. Not having to worry about running out of gas for our generator was very reassuring. Not only did we use our Generac GP6500 after we lost power at our home we also continued to use it as we participated in various clean-up projects for others homes who suffered severe storm damage in which utility power was not able to be restored. The GP6500 was small enough to be transported to various worksites as home repairs were needed throughout our region. Again, we used our generator all throughout the day while we operated electrical equipment to assist with clean up and various home salvaging activities. We’ve since winterized our Generac GP6500 (which was simple and easy to perform) and have it stored and ready for the next time it is needed. Unfortunately, living close to the coast in North Carolina results in yearly threats of hurricanes. However, we are comforted knowing that we are prepared for any future storms and power outages with our Generac GP6500 ready to go in the garage. Good Job Generac!

We trust Generac to provide well made, reliable equipment to protect and serve our home.

Our portable generator is the perfect size for our current home needs. We purchased it to run our home in emergencies. We have lost hundreds of dollars in freezer food in the past due to outages. We bought our portable Generac to make sure we can function in any kind of emergency; at home or, if we have to relocate temporarily for some reason, it can go with us. We also plan on getting a larger permanent Generac in the near future, to monitor our home all the time and run it when needed. We trust the Generac name and feel safe and protected knowing it is here.

Very good quality and simple to use

Bought during a power outage and brought power back to my house very quickly. Assembly is simple and straightforward. Generator has started first pull and still starts very well with the included electric start. pushes a lot of power so nominal rating is not overrated. a bit noisy but I was amazed to see how little gas it used. Not the cheapest, but quality is top.
