Shady grass

I have a large backyard that is perfect for entertaining but the ground stayed bare because it was surrounded with huge shade trees. After trying endless types of seeds this one finally stuck and I now have a full carpet looking lawn under a nice shade. The grass stays full and colorful and I am no longer embarrassed at the thought of setting my lawn chairs under the shade of the trees

This product worked for me.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was in the process of getting my house ready to sell this past summer and Oregon had gone though a major long dry spell. The grass looked awful, dandelions had popped up aggressively and some other weird wild weeds from the green space behind our home and the neighbors house was filling in quickly. Even Moss was taking over the grass in areas of shade. I took the weekend; hand weeded what I could see, used Scotts Moss control for the Moss and Scotts weed & feed for the weeds still developing that I couldn't see. Then I raked the heck out of it to get all the dry grass, moss and bare patches exposed. I watered it completely and then used the Scotts Turf Builder Grass seed for Sun and shade. It worked and it worked quickly - I followed the package and watered every morning until it was established. I kept the birds away from the seed with a plastic owl but I didn't have to do anything else except mow when it was time. I was very pleased with the result and the people who viewed our home really liked the lawn. I was happy I didn't have to baby the lawn and I could focus on other things to get the house ready. It was picture perfect and we Sold quickly. My Realtor said that the family commented that they wouldn't even have to work on the yard and would just get to set up their outdoor furniture and BBQ right away to begin enjoying it. Perfect!

Great Results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] as a first time user of Scotts products, i found this product easy to use and maintain. the directions on the bag along with the helpful smartphone application make it easy to understand when to apply the product and when it needs water. after a few weeks i noticed that the grass was greener and the spots where there was no grass was covered.

Nothing Grew !

Put this seed down with some new topsoil on bare patches in my lawn. I have been watering it for 2 weeks, usually twice per day, and NOTHING grew. I have called customer service, and yes they will refund your money if you mail in your receipt. ( and no, I have never used any herbicide on the lawn ) What really annoys me is the wasted time and wasted water - that is certainly worth way more than the bag of seed. Reading the reviews here it looks like a common problem. I think Scotts have some serious quality control issues.

I am sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and I would like to share a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers. Water is an important factor in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge. Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. Our Research Department has told us that if seed is laid on top of old grass, you will have about a 2% germination rate. If you are seeding over an old lawn, we recommend that you rent a slit seeder. If this is not possible, vigorously rake the existing turf, or add a shallow layer of topsoil to the yard prior to seeding. Seed also needs exposure to sunlight. A heavy cover of straw, soil, or other material will cause the seeds to rot, or severely limit germination. Cover seeds "three straws thick", or with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) with topsoil. Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination. I hope these extra tips will help you in your future endeavors and again, I sincerely apologize for your disappointment with these recent results. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us at http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

This product works the best!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this to grow grass in a lot of places: a very large area where my 24 foot round pool was & it grew in fantastic! Also between the sidewalk & the street where everyone else on my street had a problem growing their grass & I didn't!! I told them it was because I used Scotts... I had a dog & used it in many other places in my yard as I have 6500 square feet of just grass.. I am a huge promoter of all your products... I use the Halts crabgrass treatment, weed & feed turf builder 2, summer guard, fall guard & winter guard... I get a lot of compliments on my green grass!!!

The product provides excellent turf.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a golf course superintendent, I'm always looking for the best products for my golf course. I do the same when it comes to my home lawn. SCOTTS Turfbuilder grass seed fits the bill!!! Germination is quick and it provides a nice lush lawn in sun and shade. My wife says it's as nice as my golf course. I'd highly recommend SCOTTS Turbuilder Grass seed. It's the best!!!

A Winner Wherever it Lands

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love to use this product from Scott's. I had 3 properties to fix up and sell. Each one had a sad looking lawn in need of repair. One was sunny in back & shady in front, one was all sunny, and the 3rd house had dense shade with 2 huge mature trees in front and a small sunny/shade mix in the back yard. I bought Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix for each of these places. I also use it in my own yard and I don't have to worry about where the seed lands. It just knows what to do and fills in where needed.

Product worked very well

I used Scotts grass seed on a section of my lawn that never performed very well. The Scotts product was easy to use. Within a couple weeks the grass was growing and is now thicker than the rest of my lawn! Very pleased and will use it again in other areas!

This is product is great for sunny and shady areas

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this product because I had to redo the entire lawn from scratch because of the oil tank removal. The area that I wanted covered with grass is sunny and shady. This was perfect for the area. I spread it out evenly and a lot of the seeds were either eaten by birds or just simply washed away by the rain (slightly slopped area to cover). The second time I spread the seeds around to fill in areas that didn't take. The grass grew in beautifully. I will definitely spread a little more seeds down in the spring time to get all of the areas filled with grass. The product is very pricey.

Poor Germination; Clumping

I've used Scotts products for years and this is no doubt the worst performing seed I've ever experienced. First the gemination rate was approximately 30%. After a few months I tried reseeding the bare spots, but got zero germination. The following year all I have is a yard full of grass clumps. It does not spread at all. Granted, what little grass I did have in the spring was nice and blue, now during the summer it's a nice shade of brown. VERY disappointed with this product.
